Okay, can someone try to explain how all this works.
1 - When we are the EU we used to have that Health Card. Is that still valid? Is there a reciprocal agreement in place?
2 - If I take out travel insurance, does this then cover me anyway?
3 - What's all this about not being covered if you hire certain vehicles (motorbike, quad bike, etc.)? Can you buy 'extra/top-up' insurance to cover this sort of thing?
Cheers. It's all a bit of a minefield.

1. The EHIC card was for when we were in Europe. I believe there is a replacement (perhaps GHIC). Google will no doubt inform you how to go about getting them. However, the Greek National Health Service is not as comprehensive as ours, e.g. when I had my legs done by a motorbike, the ambulance delivered me for free and the hospital stitched me for free (actually they never asked for my card, I don’t know why). But they also gave me a prescription (written on the blank reverse side of half a desk calendar!!) for tetanus which in UK would have been bunged into me without a second thought, but I had to get and pay for the full kit from a pharmacy. A fellow guest in Villa Maria did the deed, but apparently I could have got it done in the pharmacy - free or fee? I don’t know. The card only provide VERY minimal cover and is NOT recommended as suitable for holiday insurance. PS The several small doctors surgeries around resorts are private and you’ll be asked to pay for consultations and treatment.
2. Get proper holiday insurance. Policies instantly denied liability for “Pandemics” when COVID arrived, but many have since advertised complete cover for it. But surely wise to ask before you buy.
3. Elsewhere on this forum (or Facebook) I have published a copy of the relative paragraph from my annual policy which states categorically that quads are NOT covered, bikes and mopeds only if your policy covers them in UK and if you use the correct size bike AND wear the correct protective clothing (leathers?) and helmet. As a fact that you can insure ANYTHING if you pay the premium, you surely can buy insurance for them. Make sure the quote confirms it will mend you and the bike/quad and fly you home if you need a hospital flight. These things are notoriously unstable in the hands of a novice, especially on the loose surfaced corners on mountain tracks. This paragraph will provoke strong protests from the quads fans, urging you to join them with your shorts and no T-shirt.

I checked my bank account packaged travel insurance carefully last year - particularly the bits about what was & wasn't covered with Covid. Happily, it was really good and even covered me for costs of having to stay on if I caught the virus & couldn't come home, which is what I was worried about. It had been upgraded since Brexit and I wouldn't want to use a quad anyway!

Wow! I've just booked a seven night stay in Tenerife in 3 week's time and was just looking at the TA forum for info on current Covid regulations. It appears that the Canary Island authorities have done an amazing thing to reassure tourists who may be worrying about their own insurance cover being adequate:- 'Tourists visiting any island in the Canary Islands archipelago for a minimum of 1 night and a maximum of 30 days, staying at regulated tourist establishments, who test positivein a PCR test for COVID-19 during their stay, will be considered insured parties, and also their accompanying relatives, even if the latter do not test positive.Including:- Medical, surgical, pharmaceutical and hospitalisation costs resulting from COVID -19- Healthcare transport or repatriation of COVID-19 patients or wounded- Costs of lengthening the insured party’s stay at a hotel (including in the event of quarantine or imposed confinement). The above is without prejudice to other travel assistance guarantees if the insured party tests positive for COVID-19.'Peace of mind - I'll be doubly covered!
