Sorry for not mentioning this earlier, the big news from Koukounaries is that the bridge is ‘p*ssed’.
It’s leaning alarmingly to one side - the left as you approach to go on to the beach.
They’ve blocked off the two-thirds of the bridge on that side, and there’s a sign saying no more than two people on the bridge at once.
A major issue requiring a fast resolution.

Similar thing happened to our (smaller) bridge over the river in our park. But it was not inebriated, just got broken. Three years ago. It’s a serious nuisance as the only other crossing is the main road, which of course is not as safe for small children as the park area, can’t leave them free to do it unaccompanied. Plus it’s quite a huge diversion route. No warning/limiting sign of course, this is the age of elf an safety, just completely barricaded off.
“They” have now announced they’ll look into replacing it.

Marmita last night.
As ever, fantastic food. Traditional Greek roots, but advanced flavours.
Starter was a salad called ‘Ode to Tomatoes’ and baked feta.
Mains, slow-cooked lamb, pasta, moussaka and rabbit.
One disappointment - the wine was sub-par. We chose the cheapest, but it wasn’t as good as the far cheaper house wine elsewhere. But still a fantastic final evening meal.
Sat at the pool bar now, soon to eat a nice lunch.
It’s still baking. The weather has been very hot for the full ten days.

Great reports, YM. I’m surprised we’ve not bumped into you as we seem to have been in very similar places at similar times! My friend’s daughter and her family were staying at the Palace until yesterday and we went for a nosey round a couple of times. Very nice, but I think I’ll stick with town. In fact, although it’s lovely here in Koukounaries it just isn’t for me any more. Times change …

I completely take your point.
My dad has enjoyed himself, but would only come back if it didn’t involve so many stairs. He’s counted that it’s 57 steps up to breakfast.
We’re looking at town for possible future jaunts.

Marmita last night - wonderful food, setting and service. Poor wine.
Tip - pay a bit more for better wine.
Then a last night drinking by the pool. A last day drinking by the pool today. A last Mythos & oregano crisps at the airport, which is where I’m posting from.
See you later.

Time for one more.
Take off originally for 9:15. Later moved to 9:30.
We’re now on a half-full plane, almost ready to go, and it’s 9:07pm.

I didn’t time exactly how long it was from stepping off the plane at Leeds-Bradford and fitting in the car, but it was easily the fastest ever. Ditto our heads hitting the pillow at home.
The biggest differences are the far shorter distance from airport to ca park, then car park to home.
Maybe another post later today, and a few pics later.

Only just catching up with your reports YM as I've been darn sarf over the bank holiday weekend and it's been a bit hectic. Agree with all your points re Marmita, though I think I've only been twice. To give them credit, when they made a mess of one of the orders first time they included an extra decent bottle of wine for free as an apology.

A lovely setting, great food, fantastic service - but not po-faced, very friendly and human.

Very interested to hear why you’ve ‘gone off’ Koukounaries. Is it just access? I prefer to stay in town where there’s so much more choice of types of accommodation and places to eat, especially now I’m a solo traveller. This May‘s holiday was booked BC and our group consisted of six families & me staying at Myrtia, so being in town would have been a logistical nightmare. I had a week at the Panorama in Kouk in 2020 and found myself going into town for four evenings out of the seven. With buses finishing early it cost me a lot in taxi fares too! So it’s not a matter of ‘going off’ Kouk - more that my needs have changed!
