Now, we all know that the cost of beds and brollies has been stable for many years and is €8 for 2 beds and a brolly, plus €3 if you need another bed etc.
However, after a trip to Skopelos I was surprised to discover that beds and brollies there were all free. Every beach we tried there was no charge.
If it can happen in Skopelos, is it possible on Skiathos?

I have to say Patch, it is very rare to have free sunbeds I'm trying to remember if ever I've had a free one apart from a few years ago on Skiathos when the sunbed concessions hadn't been finalised and George on Tzaneria beach couldn't charge anyone. If you go to Agia Eleni late in the afternoon sometimes the boys on there will only charge €5. If you are holiday for two weeks and you go to the beach most days it would save you a fortune if they were free... extra cocktails

Extra cocktails indeed! And I think that is a good point - people would still spend what they spend but it may see more money going into the takings of the hard working locals rather than disappearing into the municipal coffers every few years. More things purchased would mean perhaps a little more VAT(?), more need to acquire from the wholesaler etc who may need to buy more from the manufacturers / importers. And they all may need to employ a few more people. Okay, rose tinted glasses coming off now!

Now there's a thing, when someone buys a beachbed concession does the money go to the Municipality or to the Government. The prices are astronomical I think someone posted them last time, I will have a look to see if I can find them.

I'm thinking it has to be a mayoral decision as Skopelos also comes under Magnesia so if it was mandated from 'on high' then I would think it would also need to apply there too. Let me know what you find and we can start a campaign!!
