Hope all forum members currently on the island are safe and well and hopefully will soon be able to enjoy what remains of their holiday

Thank you Dave, we are OK. Loads of water yesterday but didn’t get at us or our accommodation, just the pool and garden. And the pool merely overflowed, whereas some we’ve seen today are full of muddy water - I guess it’ll take ages to get it all out and then to refill with water again will be a huge extra expense.

As I mentioned on feedback section, some probably won't consider it worth reopening for remainder of season once they've cleared up and dried out might just shut up shop until next season.

I have read several notices from businesses on the island announcing their re opening dates , and in some cases apologising for any inconvenience. Yes Skiathos is a beautiful place, but for me personally it’s the locals ( and those who work the season) who make it special. These guys have lost a great deal of income coupled with restoration/repair costs and still the visitors are their priority

Radio silence from the island, I assume that Wi-Fi issues are making it difficult for folk to log on etc

Well, luckily it seems as though this second September storm- Elias - hasn’t been as severe as Daniel. I have friends on the island at the moment who are mightily relieved - especially as one couple were also there during Daniel and had quite a delayed return to the uk.
I’ve seen a few people saying that the storms have put them off going Skiathos in September. I’m not one of those - I’ve visited at some point in September for many years and have experienced the odd storm, but this year was unusual. What about you regulars ~ have you been put off?

N...oooo, but it has made me just a little wary. They had a similar situation in I think 2018 - not as bad, but not far off. It wouldn't surprise me if we see this every few years. Like the rest of us, no matter what they do to prevent climate change, we're going to have years of living with it. In some ways, it wasn't the rain itself which was the issue, but the flooding. If it'd have rained, but the flooding could be prevented/negated, then losing 3 days on the beach is a pain, but nothing like as bad a hit on the holiday as you had - no power, moving hotels, etc. One thing that struck me this time - apparently Volos has had it as bad as Skiathos a few weeks ago, and it's literally just a few miles away. Sometimes the worst of the storm can be just a few miles wide.

I totally agree YM that this is something that will be repeated in the future and I did hear some criticism (from locals) that the Council hadn’t cleared the storm drains adequately prior to the bad weather. It seems that they were well informed that it was going to be a bad one, but seemed powerless to help lessen the effects. The Mayor had put out (on social media) the areas not to park in and where to remove loose items from, but there were still cars in those areas (like the ones next to the Alkyon and on the harbour front) and bins, tables and even fridges were left outside in Pap street to be swept away.
Perhaps they will take it more seriously next time!
