Hopefully the extra competition will bring prices down.

Hopefully the extra competition will bring prices down. ……….or increase the cost of accommodation? 🤔

Hopefully the extra competition will bring prices down. My thoughts exactly, I don’t think it will effect accommodation prices directly mainly due to the cosmopolitan nature of the island, yes uk visitors are to the fore but other visitors are becoming more and more prevalent

Some quick sums.
The Palace has I think 250 rooms, that’s maybe 600 people. Let’s say they average 10 days each.
It’s open for about 160 days, divided by a 10 day holiday, that’s 16 lots of 600 tourists = 9,600.
In short, if you wanted to accommodate 30,000 tourists more each year, you need to build three Skiathos Palaces.

Yes, love ‘em. So a Palace full of 600 guests for 160 days is 96,000 guests a year so for 30,000 you need to demolish two thirds of a Palace. 160 days is 23 seven day holidays, with flights on one day a week (or you get empty days between changeovers without income or occupancy). 600 a night in a Palace requires them to arrive on the same day, so three flights coming and leaving that day, say about four Dolphins coaches per flight for transfers each way. But how many ham and tomato baguettes and cans of Mythos in departures cafe for 600 departing tourists? They simply won’t cope. Perhaps I should say that when I got a pass in GCE O level maths about 65 years ago, Rothwell Grammar School’s maths mistress expressed her total astonishment, only surpassed by my own. Trust me, I’m a numerical genius.
