I see from Ian's blog that the elections for the post of Mayor take place on 20th & 27th of May. I wonder what effect this will have on the timing of the licences to operate the sunbed concessions and beach tavernas. I seem to remember that last year the licences were only issued for one year so I hope that the election doesn't lead to a big delay in issuing them this time, affecting the holidays of those at the start of the season. I would hope that is going to be the first priority of the new Mayor. It is total chaos when the licences are up for grabs.

Apparently the system has now changed and it is no longer the responsibility of the Mayor, so hopefully there won't be any delays this year after all. Bob

Who does it now & why only for 1 year at a time? Thankfully my friends who run a bar in Kouk's don't have this problem & they start getting the bar ready in April for opening in May. It must be very stressful for the sunbed ppl & beachbar owners not to mention the holiday goers who don't know if they wllget a bed or take their own supplies.

Hi Gary, according to SL1, the process is now handled by the government and the income goes to the Troika, the group of three set up to oversee the Greek austerity measures, to help pay off the debt. I don't know if it will be one year again or whether they will resort back to what I think used to be a three year licence. Whatever system they use, I hope that it is set up for the start of the season. Bob

Ye Gods and little fishes! Are they hoping to pay off the national debt with income from sunbeds?
