Hi Tim, welcome to the forum. For a quiet resort Troulos or Kolios would suit you. Both have nice sandy beaches and Kolios is only about 10-15 minute walk into Aghia Paraskevi which also has a good beach. Both places have a good selection of tavernas and pool bars that you can frequent in the evening and you have the chance to not eat in the same place twice. Wherever you choose, every beach on the south coast can be reached on the bus which runs between Skiathos Town and Koukounaries and the whole journey only takes about 20-30 minutes. Any idea which accommodations Cosmos have got? If so we may be able to advise what each are like. Have you looked at my website www.skiathosboomerang.co.uk for a better look at resorts and beaches? My Google Map also shows where many places of interest are. Skiathos Town is the biggest place on the island, but is still not big. It is not a place dedicated to Brit culture, there are a few night clubs, but only at the height of the season and far enough away from the town to not worry about. Mainly it is tavernas, bars and shopping and really is a place to visit at least once during your visit. There is a lively harbour area and marina. The shopping area is mainly one street with a few others off it and does get quite busy of an evening. The old back streets are really nice to walk around and there are a few really good tavernas in the back streets. Try here for Mountain Bike Hire, I think they are the best (maybe only) place that does it and they also do guided off road treks. For quad hire, there are many places to get them from. Away from the coast towards the northern beaches the roads are mainly dusty tracks and can be quite hilly, but as you say you would prefer mountain bikes maybe this doesn't bother you too much. The main road between town and Kouk would probably be a bit hairy in peak season for cycling (I am a regular cyclist as well) as the road is busy and twisty. However, the northern coast and beaches are a place you must try and get to (no buses) either in a hire vehicle or on a mountain bike during your visit. I am sure Skiathos is the place to go, it is a great island with a very laid back atmosphere. Anymore questions please ask. Richard

Theodora Studios are usually with Cosmos. Situated in Kolios. 10 min walk to lovely sandy beach a little further to Paraskevi where you are spoilt for choice of eateries. Theodora will not disappoint unless you are looking for 5 Star luxury!! Ha ha.

I would second Kolios for the same reason as Tre. You might want to check the Olympic site for Demetris Studios and Xanthi Studios. Xanthi Studios is right behind the wonderful Infinity Blue restaurant and has a great little bar and swimming pool. The place is run by Matina and Bill who are fantastic. Demitris Studios is about five minutes further up the road and is in a lovely garden setting and also has a nice little pool and patio area, looked after by Barbara. Both are typical basic studios. If you fancy something a bit more luxurious, check out the Diamond Studios, which is half way between the two and has its own excellent restaurant. Bob

Theodora seems popular. It is situated about 400 yards from the main road along a quiet lane, along with a few other apartments, including the Diamond wher we stay). It is the last accomodation along the lane, so is really in a quiet location. It has a small pool bar where we usually have a before bed drink. About 200 yards away is a small supermarket and the bus stop is at the end of the lane on the main road. I think the Veronica is next to the Diamond about 200 yards from the Theodora. The Magdalena as amtgold says is near the Yadim. just off the main road, but a shorter walk into Ag Paraskevi where ther are more tavernas and closer to the beach.

Just book it! We've been to Theodora for the last 3 years! (Our son got engaged there!) Suspect he'll be there with his fiancée & family at some point this year but we're having a change. Though we'll be calling for a drink or two with Maggie while we're there. Please don't expect luxury. What you get is quality, family orientated hospitality. Snorkelling; (well I don't like to get my face wet! Ha ha) but the sea at Kolios bay can be like a mill pond beautiful. With 2 resident geese!! Hope the Taverna is open again for business this year. Enjoy x

Kolios is excellent for snorkelling. Seems to be more fish around earlier in the morning inshore. If you head out to the left far end of the cove, there usually quite a selection out there. Enjoy
