As previously posted, the two tavernas at the airport are now part demolished. However, just next to them, slightly up the track, is a new one. Desires taverna, apparently it is being opened by the original owners of one of the airport tavernas. Also heard a hint that a tender is going in for the taverna upstairs inside the airport. So that may be open again very soon.

I hope there is another outside taverna opening again. It was one of the things we looked forward to when we got to the airport. If there is anything to look forward to when you know you're going home.

If there is anything to look forward to when you know you're going home. Totally agree with you. It was an amazing revelation on our first visit last year - checkin and hand ov er our hold baggage, then go bnack out of the airport to wait and see if the plane arrived!!! Sounds quite archaic, but in fact made our return journey so much more enjoyable. Reminded me of my holiday to Santorini many years ago. Arrival lounge was a doorway into a shed, you went through and a customs man was sitting at a desk inside the door and waved you through - "through" was outside again at the other side. Same room, door and man for departures. The luggage was offloaded from the plane onto a large trolley and we had to go get it off ourselves. For departure, we had to load the trolley. The "departure lounge" was a fenced area on the airfield, no roof or shade at all. The inbound flight passengers walked past us and we looked for all the world like prisoners in a stalag!

Hi
Does know where the suitcases will be taken on return journey now that the taverna is no longer. I prefer having my suitcase with me on the transfer to and from airport but on our visit in June they are taken to/taken from the hotel to the airport and we follow. We have done this before but on our return journey our luggage wasn't picked up so we had to take it with us on the coach. Glad we didn't just leave the cases expecting them to be collected.
