We went out on the Agios Nikolaos trip to Skopelos and Asselinos and on the second leg were VERY fortunate to see a dolphin (see photo here skiathosboomerang.freeforums.net/thread/273/write ). I think it was a bit unusual and the better chance might be with the sister boat (Poseidon?) which does the seal sanctuary run. I have a feeling it requires the right weather and sea (calm) conditions for them to ride the boat's bow wave. Agios Nikolaos seems to be the biggest (all steel, white) boat and Poseidon isn't much smaller. AG's hostess is Victoria (see Facebook ID SkiathosbooksSkiathos for her page with photos of the island) who gives a very good commentary in English, highly recommend it. Runs twice a week, Monday and Thursday (book on the old port, not with your holiday rep, there's one booking stall for both boats).

Thankyou very much Dennisn , hope we are as fortunate as you were , they are special creatures and I've heard that on rare occasions they have made eye contact with humans and this leaves a lifelong imprint with us , be sure to let you know how we get on .... DJs

Sometimes you can be lucky and see them without leaving the island this has happened twice for me, once was from the bus as we left Koukounaries on the stretch from bus stop 23 where you have a big vista of the sea there was just a lone dolphin jumping in and out of the water.
The second time was from the comfort of my balcony, two dolphins swam into the area below the Pounta played around for a while swam down towards the boatyard and then made their way back and out to sea again, it was magical I couldn't believe my eyes.

We have also been lucky enough to see dolphins in Skiathos, once on a the boat trip to Skopelos/Alonnisos in the national marine park pod of six or more, once from koukounaries beach 2 dolphins playing about 80 metres from shore and Ali even saw one on the coach back to the airport in Tzaneria Bay. Always magical to see. When we travel now along the coast roads one of us is always on Dolphin watch!! Good luck DJs Sagster

Earlier this year we went on a yacht charter on the Voula - not at all expensive and proper sailing - highly recommended. No dolphins (according to the skipper they are fed up with some of the tourist boats chasing them) but did see a Marlin jump clean out of the water, twice! We did see dolphins from the beach opposite the Troulos Bay Hotel but that was last year. Can't wait to be back on 3rd June! 2015!
