Condensed milk will do. But to be honest, a bit of milk of human kindness wouldn't go amiss - I have this morning lost my appeal against a ticket for driving in a bus lane on Bank Holiday Monday.
My appeal was based on the fact that there are no buses on Bank Holidays - no, not any, zilch buses, the timetables all say No Service on Bank/Public Holidays. The adjudicator said it was his job to determine if there was a legal bus lane at the time - and there was (because it says Mon-Fri and doesn't say Except B. Hols). And did I drive in it? - and I did. So pay up! He flowered it up with stuff like it is not in his remit to comment on whether the council should be operating a bus lane without buses, nor whether they should turn a blind eye on Bank Holidays without buses. But my appeal got dismissed. So now all the buses will run punctually and reliably on Bank Holidays - i.e. there aren't any so none will be awaited in vain and none will be late - reliably. And the council will pay somebody to sit at a monitor at Christmas Day double time plus time off in lieu, in order to fleece drivers of the cash to pay the wages of the monitoring staff. Grrr.
Saturday, 3pm, Bourtzi, complete with Carnation, or Condensation, or Kindness please.

Dennis that's rotten for you. Just to reassure you that you can expect the sun to be shining for your arrival tomorrow. Wishing you a safe & pleasant journey. Almost 8pm, by the Alkyon pool with a glass of something cooling Yammas

Oops, I didn't get WI-FIed yesterday, sorry for not answering sooner. Thank you everybody for you kindness in the face of the council, but can you believe it, I had completely forgotten all about it in the joy of getting here? (So UNthank you for reminding me ). i have decided to start my feedback from here, so I won't be waiting to get home. I'll start another thread later today, got to go into town now for a gyros, then up to the Bourtzi to sit all alone and ignored by all the people I'm expecting but who won't turn up!

I'll be with you in spirit Dennis, whilst here in sunny Kelso with my tin of Carnation at the ready. If you get bored, which I don't imagine you will, you can always go and check out the new Bourtzi toilets everyone is raving about. Don't forget to practice your whistling first though, as I hear that there are no locks on the doors. Bob

For Dennisn, Tre and anyone else who is currently on the island you may like to know that tomorrow (Sunday) is the submarine service of Remembrance by the memorial torpedo, after the mass at Tries Hieraches .. I can't remember the exact time but think it is around 10.30am, in past years many visitors have attended this annual memorial.

We got back last night Dennis and touched down in Kavala to refuel. Lovely flight no bumps and landed 40 minutes early. We found Skiathos much busier than the same two weeks last year. I've never seen Troulos beach so crowded. Also the small bar at Villa Maria is closing on 15th September, which you have no doubt found out. Have a lovely holiday Dennis and I hope the sun continues to shine for you there.

Thanks for posting the video Bob .. I was there too.
Mr Plomaritis the ex mayor won't be leading the parade this year as he has done in every year I've been there, but no doubt he will be in attendance.
The most touching scene I can remember was several years ago when an elderly lady walked to the edge of the jetty with who I guess were younger members of her family and cast a beautiful wreath into the sea, she stood for some time looking out, she then composed herself drew back her shoulders and returned to the memorial for a few minutes alone. She wasn't the only one with tears in her eyes.

Nobody turned at the Bourtzi at 3pm, even though I had an unwise second beer to give you all chance to be a bit late.
There is a submarine parked out at sea. Just out from the Bourtzi, obviously to participate in ceremonies tomorrow. Old man that I am, that is the very first time I have ever seen one. I shall find out later whether I can successfully pass a copy photo from iPhone to iPad to Photobucket to this forum!
Gotta go now - I'm already late for Salt and Pepper.
