Right Mrs W, here's a question for you, the answer to which, I'm sure, lurks in your filing cabinet somewhere. Sally, on the Old Boomerangers Facebook page, has posted a copy of an old Skiathos map, dated 1967. It doesn't appear to show the Airport. I tried Googling to see when it was built, but there appears to be some confusion. One website says 1965 and another says early 70's. What does the Oracle say? Right now, I'm timing you! Bob

Could be it was started in 1965 but not opened until the early 70's ;-)

Sorry Dennis, but only a reply from Mrs W will be accepted as THE definitive answer. As Nelly Pledge (remember her ?) would say "She knows, you know!" Bob

Fear not, Bob, I wasn't giving answers, only passing amused/confused comments.

Oh dear Bob, I have to say I don't know the answer .. never thought about it before, I only started to go there in the 90's. I can see my reputation will now be in tatters ... oooooh the shame

Oh Kath, how could you? This debate had been raging on the Old Boomerangers Facebook page and I assured everyone there that I would ask The Oracle would come up with the definitive answer. I have to say that I derive no satisfaction whatsoever for having stumped you on this occasion. Mind you, it probably won't be too long before we are back with another question that only you can answer, so you will have a chance to redeem yourself! Bob

Ah sorry to let you down Bob, I should know because I've read about it being built I think they had to draft in either the Greek navy or army to help .. retainining memory not so hot these days. I would go with the early 70's as I once read a post where someone who visited in the mid 60's could only get there by land and sea and it was at a time when buses used to go down Papadiamantis Street although not the type that are in use now haha. I would have thought J Jackman would have the answer as he was most likely living on the island then. PS Apologies for the delay in answering the original post, I've been sunning myself in warmer climes
