Been to Skiathos lots of times but currently sat on the tarmac at Manchester for pushing 3 hours (Thomson flight)...appears all flights into Skiathos have been delayed, anyone else in this situation know anything more? Been told its due to the influx in flights into Skiathos.

Wasn't there an ATC strike the other day. They may well be still catching up.

Thomson Birmingham already over an hour late is apparently landing at Thessalonika, Manchester is running 2 hours late and currently over Germany, Luton over 3 hours late (compensation?) and currently over Bosnia Herzogovina. Here's Birmingham approaching Thessalonika. Flight pattern shows it got almost there, then stooged around and eventually gave up. This was the pattern earlier this year when the Skiathos apron was full. Fortunately it will be OK five weeks today when we fly out.

I've just spoken to Angela at Villa Maria, Troulos and she says they are having a thunderstorm and she has no power after one of the big bangs.
So much for my flipping iPhone weather forecast - I have been taunting her for days now that they will have a storm "tomorrow" and every time, it turned out to be glorious weather. Now my iPhone says sunny, slight cloud, 28 degrees. She says my iPhone is rubbish - it's an iPhone 6 Plus for goodness sake!

Thomas Cook Newcastle, nearly an hour late, is now starting to stooge around.

T. C. Newcastle went off to Kavala, to join T.C. Stansted. Both sitting there I presume as there's no sign of them moving. Thomson Birmingham went to Thessalonica and has just taken off again to resume the journey. Luton landed half an hour ago to show them how it's done. Manchester is just over Skopje, doing 500mph and could arrive within the hour.

Hi Dennisn ,
Your flights will be fine I'm sure as it's quite an efficient system if everything runs as usual , however I thought I might let you know what happened with the Newcastle & Stansteads on Fri 7th that didn't make it as scheduled to ;
TCX6157 Ncl & the stanstead flight both cancelled due to wet runway ,as had everyone,we been at JSI since lunchtime for mid afternoon flight but were informe around 15:30 that it was cancelled and other arrangements had to be made for return travel ... what follows is the final outcome of that voyage ..
Fri 7th 21:30ish everyone coached from JSI to ElGreco on the harbour for Chicken,Chips & drinks . 23:30ish all aboard the last ferry for the crossing to Volos . Sat 8th 04:00am coaches from Volos to Thessaloniki . 07:00am arrive at the Grand Palace Hotel~Thessaloniki (rooms provided for clean up , food & rest etc) 16:30pm depart for Thessaloniki Airport 19:45pm flight takes off for NCL with some of the Stansted passengers on board as 130 or so were fortunate to be given seats on a direct flight slightly earlier. 20:30 GMT arrive at NCL .. passengers for Stanstead all off as well as they have to do the immigration thing again then get back on for the trip back home (heroes all of them)
We were the luckier ones as it was just the two of us with two cases & backpacks so easily managed and could help those with children,buggies etc ~ really hope this is not something that happens to anyone else as it is quite a journey when you're unprepared and very tired ...
Fingers crossed anyway ... DJs

Thank you for that. I had seen both TC flights diverted to Kavala, then I got a call out and had to go into London. When I got home there was no sign of them so I assumed they got going.
It seems that this sort of thing is popular with TC flights which certainly have a less than brilliant reputation for Skiathos. Our Thomson flight, Birmingham, was delayed but DID happen.

Better it happened on the way home as opposed to the beginning which means losing a whole day , then being very tired when you eventually arrive and worrying for two weeks about getting home , anyway the Island and people are worth it so still booked for Kouk next year , disruptions , EU , Euros or not .. Either way, it demonstrates the necessity for carrying any daily needed medication in hand baggage.
