i see from FB that there are a few problems again today with the rain. The Newcastle flight diverted to Thesaloniki and talk of them being bussed and ferried. Others delayed in Skiathos awaiting incoming flights. I hope that these difficulties are resolved soon. Bob

Good news for the Newcastle arrivals, due to touch down any time now (14.55 GMT). A bit delayed but at least they didn't have to face the predicted bus and ferry trip.

I've really missed out today - had a job to pickup at 9am, so all I was able to see was delayed departure of our Birmingham flight, but it didn't look too bad. But I don't know the outcome. Looking at the JSI arrivals and departures board, it looks as though there may have been a nightmare English Friday again.

Keeping my fingers crossed for next Friday, however the few long range forecasts I've seen predict rain next Friday as well. To be be honest I don't think any of them can realistically predict weather for such a small island that far in advance, so much can change globally in a week. I'll check again around Wednesday and see if it looks any brighter or prepare for the worse.

Mine from Birmingham is three weeks today. All the rain and storms will have stopped by then.

Do you know Dennis or do you hope! :-) Well, last year it rained on my birthday (see video outing), but that was because I was greedy and asked for a new iPhone. And I didn't get a new iPhone either (well, not then). I don't do hope (let's face it, I do the lottery), I just do confident. And when it goes wrong, I do swearing! By the way, kevb, my iPhone weather forecast for next Friday is great sunshine. Today was the first time it was right.

The cancelled flights from Skiathos to Newcastle and Stansted were transferred by bus and ferry and then a further bus journey. Overall journey back to UK took 36 hours ! Thomas Cook were a farce! But no worries will certainly be back.... We will over come you Thomas Cook

many thanks we are flying out on the 28th August so just wanted to be prepared as it seems a regular event lately :-( What was the bag drop off like at Birmingham airport as in June we went to Corfu and it was dreadful and we had to get pulled out of the queue as they couldn't cope with all the flight at the same time and we needed to board?

By the way, kevb, my iPhone weather forecast for next Friday is great sunshine. Today was the first time it was right. Yep Dennis, the exact same sites that were predicting rain over the weekend I fly are now predicting sun, which is why I don't take much notice of any of them until a couple of days before I travel. It's a small island and it's influenced by it's proximity to the mainland, never going to be easy to get an accurate forecast a long way in advance and even then it can all blow over very quickly. Looking good so far, fingers crossed.

What was the bag drop off like at Birmingham airport That was the one thing that really impressed us, we breezed through for the Thomson 07:10 flight and have done so for every one since the first time. It felt as though we never paused, walking through the crocodile files to the bag drop, no time to stop and grumble about the wait, there simply wasn't one. Four trips so far and each one the same, a doddle. Next one in 17 days time - wooo-hooo! BUT I can't say the same about the return bag collection, that's awful in my opinion. One day I swear our bags will be first off the plane (that'll be the same day we win £10 million on the lottery!). But they seem really bad at getting the bags onto the carousel, such a long, long wait. Birmingham flight is scheduled to land at 3:20pm, it usually takes 5 minutes to taxi to the stand, then another 10 or more walking to the baggage reclaim. Then wait at least another half hour watching the carousel doing nothing. Should have been OK to just beat the traffic on the M42 - no chance! Be lucky to get out of there by 5pm!

Agree with Dennis re Bag Drop Off at Birmingham, not a problem at all. On our return this year (17 July) we were just under an hour from landing to getting in our taxi, which is not too bad! Would also add that we have been on the Friday Thomson flight from Birmingham for the 6 years & have never had a delay, hope I haven't spoken too soon!
