Hello all,
Firstly apologies if my questions are posted in the wrong area. I saw general chat and hoped this would fit.
So 6 years ago (June 2009,) my boyfriend and i travelled to Skiathos for what was 2 weeks of absolute paradise. We came away engaged after my (now husband,) proposed on a boat not far from Kolios, with a ring he bought from a very nice greek jewellers down Papadiamantis street. :-)
2 years later we married, and now 6 years on we have 2 beautiful children.
Every year we say we are going back, but something else is always preoccuping our finances.
This year we moved house, but dispite work needing to be done we sat down the other night and decided next year is the year!
So upon searching the usual travel company websites, we are finding it expensive for what's on offer. Plus the accomodation not entirely suitable for a family of 4 with what will be a 4 year old and 18 month old. Villas seem to be alot also for just a weeks stay.
Skiathos is not an island which deserves cheap prices or roudy family hotels of course, this is not what we want and is why we love it so. However i am now seeking some direction and advice from those 'boomerangers,' as to what would suit us and where.
Can you recommend an apartment complex with 2 bedrooms, not too far walk from the sea? Or a villa with a reasonable price range for early next summer? We're happy to book independently and then find flights. We're also equally happy to go through a tour operator if the accomodation suits and price isn't through the roof.
Anything you can recommend will be so very helpful in what will hopefully make our next trip, and our childrens first, as amazing and memorable as it was before!
Thank you. :-)

They do 2 bedroom apts at the Sunset in Koukounaries, it's just across the road from the nature reserve area that backs onto the enormous Koukounaries beach. At some times of year Kouk can be a problem area for mosquitos but I stayed there in 2012 and 2013 without a nibble all week (but I paid a visit one night this year and was bitten a lot, as was everyone else, but people were getting bitten in lots of other resorts as well though over that particular week). The 2013 trip was at the Sunset and it is very family friendly. Some of the apts are chalet style and have an open plan stair up to sleeping quarters but others are just regular older style 2 bedroom apts with a kitchen area, these are the ones left over from when it started out as the Noula. Here's the TA link for sunset: www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g1191737-d1169348-Reviews-Sunset_Hotel_Apartments-Koukounaries_Skiathos_Sporades.htmlIf on a tight budget this will probably be more affordable than a full villa, I went with a mate so we had under occupancy surcharge as we wanted a separate room each (each room had 2 beds)and it was around £600 each incl flights for 7 nights in early Sep 2013.

Oh how I wish I could help, but I'm useless. I just hope you can get fixed up on this lovely island. Please do keep us informed of progress.

Skiathos Diamond in Kolios have large apartments and family rooms I believe, plenty of space for a family of 4. Its about a 10 minute walk to either Kolios or Ag Paraskevi beaches. Only independantly booked I think, but Soula and Christos are wonderful hosts and run what I believe (I'm biased) are the largest and friendliest apartments on the island. Nice quiet pool with childrens one separate and a nice little taverna on site. Supermarket directly across the road. www.skiathosdiamond.com
