it has been so quiet on the board the last couple of days I think that we will have to have a whip round to send Dennis & Vera and Amy back to Skiathos! Come on folks there must have been some others who have stories to tell from their trip this year! Bob.

That sounds like a plan Bob :-) I know it would be a bit of a chore but I am sure I could put up with another week away in skiathos. :-):-)

Sorry folks, I really intended to do some daily reports (since I upgraded to my first smartphone this year) but somehow never got time even though I went solo. I've chipped in a few of my experiences into other people's relevant posts though where I didn't think it would derail the thread too much. I did one little walk one morning that I wondered how long it would take - the Y junction at Troulos (bus stop 18) to Asselinos beach. Can recommend this to anyone not wanting to do much hilly stuff. There is a short inclined section not far after you get beyond Ratatoullie and those villas but after that it levels off, you are essentially walking in a valley between hills so it stays fairly flat for the rest of the way. I wasn't walking fast (set off at 9:10am despite drinking in Totem bar until 2am but that's another story)and took about 50min to get to the beach shack at Asselinos, they weren't even open yet! If you want to stay out of the hills can just come back same way. However I went to the end of Asselinos beach and climbed the cliff face at the end up to the next level with a dirt track on it then wound my way back toward the east, skirting round the municipal dump (be warned that main road, though not stated on most maps, is completely closed to all traffic and walkers alike half way up where the dump is so it forces you further east than you'd like)and eventually came out at bus stop 16 near the Iguana bar. With a few false turns I spent nearly 3 hours getting back to the apartments from Asselinos! the little trails up in those hills can be a bit tricky, people have got lost up there before but if you can see the coast you can get rough bearings most of the time.

You would certainly know that you have been for a walk Kev. There is another good one, if you take the track up the hill to the right as you leave Asselinos you have a couple of options, to go back along the coast or head inland. I took the coast option, heading for Agistros, before heading back inland, coming out between BS 21 and 20.. It was quite a trek, but worth it for the stunning views. I then walked back along the main road to Kolios. A beer has never tasted so good! Bob

I am soooo sorry folks, that I still haven't taken up where I left off posting my feedback last Tuesday. The WI-FI in VIlla Maria was a casualty of the storm of Tuesday night and it simply was impossible to do anything with posting. Then when we got home, the weekend was spent catching up with the garden, shopping and stuff like that. Then yesterday I drove about 530 miles, today about 360 and tomorrow I have at least 250 coming up before anything else comes in. I promise I'll get back to it, but it's being a bit difficult keeping the promise. Hope I remember to post my picture of the airport queue - we're talking the queue to get into the Departures lounge AFTER we had already checked in the baggage and got our boarding cards - took us an hour from joining the back of it to reaching the stupid scanning machine - they were using just one and when I reached it I nearly got locked up for pressing the button which shut it down. The policeman running it shouted at me, but I (already somewhat disgruntled by that time) shouted straight back at him that it was his partner who pressed the ******* button, not me. The queue behind me supported me (but I don't suppose they'd have gone to jail for me ). Oh, here it is. We were NOT yet at the entrance to the building!!! Oh, and there wasn't a Thomson rep to be seen anywhere. It would be accurate to describe us as more than a little disappointed.

And I was somewhere at the back of that queue Dennis! Didn't see you until the Olympic rep called the Birmingham and Manchester passengers to the front (by then I was about halfway down)! Some experience.

It doesn't help that they've pulled those 2 tavernas down at the end of the road, think it used to spread people around a bit more. Liked having a final Mythos in there before the quick dash to passport control...

There is still one of the tavernas, doing roaring trade with waiters rushed off their feet. We went in there for snacks before we went into the airport viewing lounge upstairs - that now has a bit of a posh bar/snacks thingy and free wi-fi.

I finally got round to looking at some of my holiday snaps, this is the view back of Asselinos beach after I'd climbed up from it to get to the road higher up back inland

Here's a classic overview of Koukounaries with the lake, this was another of my walks, I started at Troulos, walked to Mandraki beach for lunch, walked round the north coast road to Kouk and caught the bus back to Troulos from there.

I think Skiathos is the first place which has done that to me - I see a photo and it immediately gets me aching to be back there.
PS We had several lottery wins during and after our holiday, total of £70 from them all - goes straight into the holiday tin.

Well done Dennis, our syndicate came up with £2.90 for the 18th and that has gone in the pot to be shared between 12 of us at Christmas! A big, fat zero for the 22nd, 25th and 29th! There won't be much to go towards my holiday next year. :-(
