Hi All . We are in the lucky position of being able to move to Skiathos to start a new adventure in our lives. Is there anyone on the Forum who can give us tips as to the best route to take overland as we need to transport some of our belongings to the Isle. Any advise is appreciated eg Routes/Ferries/websites/costs etc. Thanks in advance Derek & Ann

Sorry I can't help as it's 45 years since I last drove there (Volos). However, as a whitevanman I'd suggest you tell people how much stuff you intend to transport - are you talking car or small van or Transit size or what - it could limit the choices.
Best wishes for the undertaking.

How exciting, I suggest you read some of ians blogs on here , which gives information about what you might need, and ferries. Also go on trip advisor ,forum you could private message SL1 (ian) who uses flights ferries to mainland extensively, will be able to give you very valuble help.

An interesting and exciting project.
What's the purpose? Get there as fast as possible? As cheaply as possible? Short sea crossings for speed and cheap, or longer ones for sleeping?
Various routes, but all include a minimum of two sea crossings - English Channel and into Skiathos Port. Some would also do a crossing from Italy. When I did it in the sixties and seventies, it was Dover to Calais by Hovercraft, then overland all the way down through Jugoslavia (that's a country which no longer exists of course and I don't know how stable the new regimes are). There and back (Athens etc) in three weeks, camping, and I was the only driver!

You might want to post your query on Skiathos Lovers Facebook page, as at least one of the regular posters has done that journey, possibly several times and I'm sure will be able to give you the information you are looking for. Bob
