For many years, I have often been taken by the wine people - not taken as in abducted or anything, taken as in having my attention grabbed by. It has all gone over my head - sip, gargle, spit and then, with closed eyes and raised head, say something like "Mountain springs and misty berries", "Fresh", "Mature". Apparently they pick up those tastes or scents. I have never tasted anything other than wine. And for me, wine is either Nice (Mavrodaphne and Koumquat) or Sour (everything else). Although to be honest, since my early Greek experiences 50 years ago, I have found that the fourth big glass comes in the Nice category. And I do bemoan the fact that nowadays the tour operators' local Reps at the Welcome Meeting are less than Welcoming with the free drink. For many years I faithfully attended the Welcome Meeting just to get the free Ouzo (I learned in the sixties to drink ouzo with my mouth closed and not to take a breath until it had disappeared into my innards). Y'know, say Ooh and Aah to the mention of all the trips and activities, take the leaflets away to , my way of thanking them for the free ouzo. But for several years now they have not been doing it. So does anybody REALLY do this when they drink their wine? Meanwhile, I'm continuing my search for a cheeky little wine with a bouquet of frog.

Well Dennis I went to a very nice little (expensive) wine tasting in Paris back in November and we had a little session with some essential oils where we had to describe what we smelled; earthy, fruity etc, you get the drift. Then we got onto the wines, which were absolutely at the right temperature and been open for the requisite time (herein may lie the secret), it had to be swirled in the glass, then you had to do the nose thing before putting anything near your mouth. well I have to say it did work! I have tried very very hard to replicate this but I think I must be missing out a step! It was such a jolly night I bought some of the lovely wines to take home. Unfortunately I only had handbaggage!!
