I visited Skiathos in June last year 2015 (travelled solo). It was a wonderful holiday, as I also met a young woman at the hotel who was also travelling alone. I spent the days exploring and getting to the beaches, then on an evening met her at the bar and also went out for a meal together. It worked well and lightened the worry about eating out by myself. I enjoyed the "me time" through the day, but have thoughts now about the nights out alone if I book again.
I suppose this post is a wave out to any solo travellers. If travelling alone, when are you going and have you been to the Island before? I hope this post might encourage those people wanting to go but are indecisive about travelling alone. All I can say is "go for it". I am open to meeting anyone for a drink there if they are adventurous and love travel.
Dare you book that holiday?

Lots of people travel alone to skiathos, I think because it is so safe, and everyone is so friendly. I think all the people on holiday seem like a big club of likeminded people, that ive never come across anywhere else.

I was nearly tempted to come on my own this May but afraid I chickened out. My sister is coming with me. Long time since we lived together so hope all works out. I have even given her the window seat on the plane. Despite my loving the place and my sister being a bit of a Grecophile I really hope she likes Skiathos too. I would hate it if she was disappointed (although I cannot see why she would be. Maybe one day I'll brave it on my own

I am sure your sister will love the Island as I haven't heard a bad report from first timers yet. Two women together shouldn't have any problems as I am sure the staff at the various tavernas and restaurants will bend over backwards for you.
It would also be interesting to get a weather report for May as you are there before me. I am there in mid June which is a week earlier than when I visited last year. I recall we had a torrential rain storm that started late Sunday night/early Monday morning. It took out most of the Monday (very depressing) but then the sun shone and the clouds cleared mid afternoon on the Monday (phew).

I was a solo traveller last September,I had a fantastic time.I had been a few times before though with a friend.I felt very safe there,no problems at all.I am going mid June but I'm going with my daughter this time.Have a great time,who knows we may even be in the same taverna at some point.

Amtgold.....I will probably be eating, drinking, and socialising around the Troulos area with the odd trip into Town. Come and say hello! This is a good time to go solo as the prices seem to be very reasonable with low supplements for travelling alone. It might just be on the Olympic site, but it looks like the bargains are there. If your seven day holiday in June only costs around the £300 mark for single occupancy in a twin room then who could complain? Taking a break to Skiathos alone is a real tonic and confidence booster. I would recommend it for all those suffering after a break up, or a job loss, or even a loss of the family or friends. Time goes by constantly and you never can get back what you didn't do at that time. So, as the saying goes.....do nothing and nothing happens! Book it and go!  |

This is the first time I have booked to stay in Troulos (Victoria Nikos). I usually end up starting at the bar of the hotel/apartments at around 7pm then head off somewhere for a bite to eat. I might eat at the Taverna there most nights, who knows. If you have a night out in Troulos then I am sure I will be somewhere nearby. I am just hoping that the Victoria Taverna is the sort of place to have a few drinks as well.
Sure you will spot me amtgold or anyone else in the area. What does Kolios have to offer for eating/drinking out?

Hi D,Kolios and Aghia Paraskevi more or less blend into one another.Kolios has Infinity Blue,Skiathos Diamond Taverna there's a taverna on Kolios beach,don't know if it's open at night .Aghia Paraskevi has lots of places to eat.My favourite is Jimmys on the main road....get off at bus stop 16 head towards town and it's on your left just by a lane that leads to Green Park,another good place to eat/drink.Theres Maestrali, Platanias, Peas us. ..loads to choose from.
In Troulos I have only been to Varellis , another favourite and another that I can't remember the name of.Theres a few places in Troulos to choose from.Will watch out for you.

Amtgold, as you are in Kolios, don't forget to drop into the Xanthi Bar, where you are always assured of a great welcome from Matina and Bill. They do a fun quiz night and barbecue as well!

From what I can see there is the sports bar in Troulos for drinks (not that I am a big sports person). Salt and Pepper has a standalone bar. I have heard Varellis mentioned. There is the Victoria Taverna near to me. I suppose it is a case of try it out and maybe go to a few different places if I meet anyone friendly. I am thinking about having a stroll and where to go for some drinks after a meal. No doubt I'll probably develop some sort of route about the village.

I'll give it a try, any other recommendations? I suppose the best places for me will be the original rustic Tavernas where they have a bar that you can sit at too. Every day is different so I try and eat out at a different time or wherever takes my fancy. Sometimes I'll eat at a beach Taverna straight after being at a beach for the day. Sometimes, I'll get a snack and just have a few drinks out...it varies on the day and the mood.
