Hi friends... we hired a jimny last year when we were there for a week and loved it so much hubby has saved every week so we can hire one for the full two weeks (he also wants the top spec, so bit more costly but worth it in our view) anyway... we didn't go into town many times but want to go in more this time... we parked near bus stop 4 in an area where we found other cars/work vans which was fine, no sign of payment booth and no one else had tickets to say they paid... (we find that odd but great seeing as how much we pay over here)... also just as you walk down from bus stop 4, on the right was a good car park we managed to spot, it did get very busy so Im wondering if anyone can point us to anywhere else where cars can be parked for a few hours, or for the full day once as we intend doing a boat trip this year... We parked on the road on the new port once, but Im not sure we should have and Im worrying about getting a fine?... Thanks in advance for any advice....

I seem to remember someone suggesting that there is car parking near the Tennis Club, but I can't be more specific than that Di. Bob

Whenever we go into town on the bus or in the Jimny, I'm sure I remember a sign saying Public car park on the left somewhere. But I'm blowed if I can say where - I've tried watching the odd video to see if I can spot it, but no luck. Best I can say is it was between the turning up to Kastro and the bus station. Maybe it's this one (certainly has parking spaces marked?) after the airport turnoff and after the shell garage?? In my experience, you can park anywhere where you can squeeze in! However, for the more caring person, there are a few edges (verges??) where you could park on the road from new harbour/bus station to Mylos Taverna - we parked in one once. And there's always that car park at the taverna where everybody parks to watch flights - rather a long way for taverna people to come getting grumpy - gives you a nice walk to town, of course. I have to say the only evidence I've had of parking restrictions has been at the port ferry terminal area, where police will I'm sure, be very cruel to anybody getting in the way of free flow traffic.

Dennis, your map is spot on. Go past Asteras supermarket & turn left down where fire engines are stationed. Signposted "public parking" or something. No designated spaces just "open" spaces. Lots of them. Once parked, walk to the right & you come up behind Alkyon hotel or lower down onto "club strip" . We've always parked here. And, yes Bob, it is towards Tennis Club.

You can also get to that one by taking the road to the right of the Alkyon Hotel by the Bus Terminus.

This is the rough bits of ground behind the Alkyon Hotel.

Guys can't swear to it as car parks are not a favourite viewing from my seat on the bus but I have a feeling that the one highlighted by Dennis is now closed and land up for sale. I am sure I will go into town again before I leave and check it out for definite.

Oh thanks for checking Amy... Ive been on fb today and asked someone who currently is renting a car from who we mutually hire one with and him and Odysseas the owner have answered my question.... Odysseas is going to show me another parking area nearer the port when he gives us another map...he likes us to park at top of town so we can pass by and shout hello to him.... Thanks again

We always park by bus stop 4 or at the back of harbour and never had any problems. The car par Dennis mentions has never been opened
