I see both the Dog Sanctuary and SCWS have been having a few problems during their cold snap, but it seems there have been quite a few donations to SCWS. Sharon lost water supply for a few days and had problems getting around to feed the strays around the island. See her post below from Facebook.
Hi Skiathos Cat lovers, its Sharon here. During the past week in this horrendous weather I am really grateful to all the messages and phone calls received from around the world from family, friends, and supporters of the charity. It is so kind of you all. I was 4 days without water, I fell over twice carrying a 20kg sack of food, and I was so cold being outside most of the days. I never got warm until I went to bed and I must have been more tired than I thought as on Wednesday I didn’t get up until 8.45am that is the first time in 12 years, I usually get up around 6.30am. UK volunteer Iris walked from Megali Amos to come and help feeding cats along her very long walk. Rachel from the UK was due to arrive on Wednesday but there were no flights, hopefully she will arrive on Friday.
Thank you to everyone who has sent donations. All the cat blankets are ruined, we can now buy new ones, we need a huge amount of cat litter, and although the water is back on it’s a little discoloured so we can now buy in water, and what a relief knowing that food will be on its way. There will be many sick cats following this cold spell we need to buy medications. This takes the emotional worry away from me your kindness makes the dark days brighter.
Stuart came to take me around the feeding stations on Wednesday, I was saddened to see that around 25% of the cats were nowhere to be seen, I hope they didn’t perish in the cold and once the weather improves they will come back.
For fear of forgetting anyone I cannot thank enough EVERYONE who came out in these awful conditions to put food out for the strays, you saved their lives.
Liz, Gaye and Dizz the lovely local ladies helping me this winter will hopefully soon be able to return, we have a mammoth cleaning up task. Everything is so dirty, all the blankets are wet I don’t know where to start. Tomorrow is another day…it will get better. If anyone locally fancies donating a few hours of their time to help with this huge clearing up task you will be more than welcome.
Thank you all again Love Sharon xx
