As we walked to the old Port this morning to catch the boat taxi, a funeral party gathered by the ferry terminal alongside a hearse, we stopped so as not to intrude, the coffin was taken from the back of the hearse and its lid removed, the funeral party following the carried coffin, led by a priest holding a cross and another person holding coffin lid upright with a cross on it. As the procession moving along the old Port towards the church, all people both staff, locals and tourists alike in all the tavernas stood with heads bowed, as they passed the boats in the old Port all the crew members also stood heads bowed, each individual vessel sounded its horn/siren. what great respect shown to both the deceased and the mourning party. It was certainly a moving experience .

Yet another example of why the Greeks are top of my list for respect.
