Slowly researching the forthcoming holiday.
Looking at Koukounaries restaurants, and I see that Agustera Café Bar is rated the third best in all Skiathos, with Gyros - Souvlaki Under the Pine Tree 8th - that's out of over 200 restaurants on the island. Not bad going!
Would regulars say that this is a fair reflection?
Anywhere else a must visit?
Tips on what to eat at each of these?
Prices?
I notice Agustera is a 'café bar', does this affect it any way (closes early, limited menu)?
Cheers.

Hi, we love Agustera Bar. Even when not staying down there we always like to pay them a visit. Always made to feel welcome by Dino & Effi. However, we've never been in the evening but can't imagine they close early. They have large TV & continually screen sport, very popular with a lot of people. That said, it's not in your face. We visited 3 or 4 times before I noticed the TV! Average prices; €2 for a small beer, €6 I think for a Greek salad. Oh, & they have draught Strongbow. They also have a family friend German Sheppard , goes by the name of Maverick. We've watched him grow from a puppy:) Our time to visit is late afternoon following a walk back from Mandraki. Gyros under the tree still on our "to do" list! Others rave about Big Bad Wolf, we weren't impressed. Very large portions of very average food. Maybe we went on a bad night. Sorry, not tried anywhere else in Kouk. Except, we have twice dined at Elia's at Mandraki Beach Hotel, Degustation menu. Superb, but I don't think I would recommend for children. I think 6 or 7 tiny courses with appropriate wine for each course. €35 pp. Friday.........Just saying.......

If anyone else has any other information/opinions, that'd be most welcome.

From what I recall the Agustera only do daytime food (maybe up to 6pm?), it's not an evening restaurant really but great to visit for drinks after eating elsewhere. Gyros under the pines similar, more a lunchtime venue than an evening eating place though I think they do open into th eevening. I recall walking into Ilias Orchard on my first visit to Kouk and they didnt seem very welcoming, hardly anyone eating there and when I glanced at the menu there was nothing that I found interesting and I actually walked away without sitting down which is not the usual me at all. Probably a bad night, anywhere can have them. Strofilia is nice, not fussy just home cooked food in a nice rustic garden setting opposite the lake. Big Bad Wolf I've eaten at 3 times in 3 different years and never had a bad meal but again its not fancy, just wholesome basic food. Most of them are like that in Kouk, probably the only 'posh' place is Mandraki Village hotel's own restaurant 'Elias'. Only been there for a BBQ which was great. The restaurant attached to Caravos hotel (Stamelos) used to get mixed reviews but the one time I ate there it was fine, looking at tripdvisor reviews it looks like it has now changed hands and the reviews for this year seem consistently good so may be worth a look. Apparently the food at the Sunset apartments is good too but I don't recall eating there even though I stayed at the apartments for a week!. Capt Michaelis is supposed to be decent too but again if I ate there I don't recall it. I believe Michaelis owns a lot of the properties up that strip in Kouk, must be worth a small fortune but still pitches up from time to time to cook pizzas for folks!.

Thanks for that.
Anyone know what the food is like at the Palace?
Looks like they have the buffet for guests who've paid for an evening meal, and a second restaurant which is more traditional menu/waiter service.

We like a lazy day in Maratha then wander to under the pines then up to agia eleni for the sunset.Lots of wasps around last week though at under the pines. Only been to big bad wolf once and not really for us. Incredibly busy they even asked us to share a table rather than wait,as the lady they wanted us to share with was very very inebriated we declined and chose to wait. Not tried Elias restaurant but keep meaning to. Only tried agustera once cos the footy was on so needless to say I didn't enjoy it cos I hate football. But I am sure its very good in there. Whatever sure you'll find somewhere you'll like and have a great holiday.

Just had two weeks in Koukounaries and ate at the following: The Myrtia - excellent food, good choice and very welcoming (new chef this year, presentation more modern) Ate here several times, including breakfasts & lunch. Down the track next to Mandraki Agustera - tasty food, somewhat limited menu so great for breakfast and lunch - food served 9-4pm and 6-10 pm. Full English amazing! They do some Greek dishes - pastitsio very good. Spotless and love the owners, Efi and Dino Stamelos restaurant - very good, new owners - had freshly baked bread and delicious kleftico Under the Pines - good for day or evening - very waspy when we ate there last week, but they ignored people and were after the leftovers. Loved the beetroot salad & cripy belly pork. Gyros and kebabs also good. Excellent toilets! Strofilia - pretty garden setting, mostly Italian food - tasty but huge portions (they do liver & onions, though!) Cookoonarie Plus - lovely food (though we went on an off-day & they forgot my OH's meal!) The food is modern and a bit different; I had pork fillet wrapped in lamb stomach (sounds weird, but made the fillet more juicy & the lamb was crisp) with creamy mash and a tasty sauce - wow! A friend also had this, but thought it was too salty. Sunrise - ok, a nice setting by the pool, but wouldn't rush back.
Last year we also ate at BBWolf - average, though always so busy and the Hotel Panorama - good choice and a lovely welcome.
Hope this helps!
