Terrible story from New Zealand:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-40591757
Hanging around at the end of the runway appears to be a thing on Skiathos. It's important to remember that this is potentially very dangerous indeed.
I know some people will argue that individuals are stupid, and deserve what they get.
But for me, I think we live in a society where the attitude appears to be that 'health and safety has gone mad'. Whether this is correct or a tabloid invention (I suspect the latter), it's certainly a belief many people have instilled in them as fact. They then, possibly reasonably, assume that if a runway fence is placed at a certain point, that it must be safe to stand behind the fence.
If people can be killed standing in a certain public space, then something needs to change.

Difficult one. Clearly there is some risk associated with the practice but then you could trip over the kerb in Skiathos harbour, hit your head and die as a result. It's possible if there's a serious incident it might get to a point where a couple of local police boys are stationed down at the point in the road where the runway comes close opposite the taverna to keep folks away during the takeoffs. Probably a bit of a Friday job as thats the day most of the idiots congregate.

Early season last year and the police were moving people from standing there. If you stand to either side of the runway you can still experience the take off without standing directly behind the blast, it only takes a small stone to hit you in the head, eye or chest to cause severe injury. I've seen so many accidents there. There was one last year which was reported on TA it turned out that the couple who were injured were simply walking along the road towards Milos Taverna, the lady was blown off her feet and on to the rocks she had to go to Volos with broken ribs and shoulder, her husband who was wheelchair bound was thrown from his chair shaken and bruised though not as badly injured as his wife.

Also youtube vids of quad bikes that have been left whilst owners watch a takeoff trundling off over the rocks and into the bay.

I'm thinking perhaps something like the unmanned crossings on our railway lines.
