Dennis I was so sorry to read on FB of your terrible accident. It's good to see that it hasn't damaged your sense of humour. It must have been a horrendous experience for Vera as well. I hope that you have a comfortable flight home and you make a speedy recovery. Bob

Hopefully not too badly injured, cuts will heal. He'll soon be counting the weeks down to the next Skiathos adventure!

Dennis, I hope the perpertrator will get his just deserts from the Greek justice system.

I think he will get just deserts - the policeman at the station came to tell me the guy had a lot of alcohol, a VERY lot. Did I want him to go to court? I'm not greatly judgemental personally, but as it was alcohol I said Yes, so that's where he's going. To be honest, I was surprised the police even asked me - ours would just have told me it would happen.
Yes Bob, it was extremely horrendous for Vera, she reacts badly to blood and there was enough to last her quite some time, she was shuddering with shock for hours afterwards and didn't do well with sleeping that night.
As you can see, Kev, I've already updated my ticker and I'm less than 8 weeks from next visit (fingers crossed mega tightly that the recovery doesn't suffer any complications - it was a typical Greek motorbike, so would have planted a few bits of horrible into me, which hopefully the doctor flushed out).

Glad to hear you are on the mend Dennis. I think you did the right thing suggesting it be taken to court, the guy has to learn the consequences. Imagine if it had been a small child instead of an adult on the end of it.

Imagine if it had been a small child instead of an adult on the end of it. Some would say it is the same thing in Dennis's case. Sorry Dennis, hope you are recovering OK.

Woody, if I laughed with my legs I'd be hurting right now. Fortunately belly laughs are comfortable, albeit visibly wobbly!
But I must add that the thought of a child made my blood run cold. Also, I was (next day) relieved at my good fortune - what if an artery had been hit? What if I'd got a few broken bones, even what if I'd been knocked unconscious? We holiday as a couple, each doing our bit. If I'd been incapacitated, there would have been nobody to supervise the packing! Or look up our incoming flight on Flightradar24. All those essentials! It was bad enough that I was forbidden to finish off the Mavrodaphne and had to watch Vera pass it over the wall to Anagram Robert!

I think you did the right thing suggesting it be taken to court. Just pedantically - I didn't suggest he be taken to court, the police asked me if I wanted him to be taken. Bit surprising, as here my voice would have ended with the statement and the police and DPP would have done the court stuff. I was asked if they should do it, a complete surprise to me. Somebody afterwards suggested maybe there was an alternative - fine, public flogging round the harbour, buy me a gyros, whatever the local tradition is (apparently Middle East culture allows the perpetrator to buy off a murder charge by paying the victim's family). Anyway, I said I wanted him charged because it was alcohol - I don't drink when I drive, I don't drive if I've drunk anything, no way, and neither should anybody else.

It is NO consolation at all - Angela (Villa Maria Angela, not yours) was most insistent that I must NOT under any circumstances drink alcohol whilst taking antibiotics - I had already on Thursday night downed two beers as consolation and was about to do the same with the Mavrodaphne on Friday morning before getting on the coach and she got quite fierce with me. You didn't get that with my blessing, don't thank me for it, I'm even wondering whether I can get hold of the perpetrator to screw him for a new bottle in September. And another story is I get my first bottle at the supermarket opposite BS18 and note the price, because no sooner have I bought the first one (they know me) than they relabel all the rest with new prices. So I go up the road to Patitiri (just after Christakis Sports Bar) where it is cheaper. This year, first bottle near BS18 was €9.80, at Patitiri it was €8.20, but the next ones there had been relabelled to €8.70. When I make my first call at Patitiri she always remembers me from previous holiday and says she has my favourite wine. But I don't mind, she's a nice girl.
