After my injury last week (knocked down by a drunken, unlicensed, uninsured Greek motorcyclist), I was today looking into whether my holiday insurance would pay out anything (it wouldn't, of course!!) and whilst at it, I looked at the exclusions and I would like to share this with you... Look closely at the last three bullet points. Note that whatever you hire, you MUST have a UK licence for it, over 125cc bike MUST be your normal UK mode of travel, etc, etc. Particularly note the very last clause - Quads and all terrain vehicles are bluntly excluded. This may not apply to you because this is my own particular policy, an annual family one, from my bank account, so do check your own. Mine's free. EXCEPT that because we're both over 70 and we both have pre-existing medical conditions (serves me right for saying I take Omeprazole, idiot!), it isn't free, it cost £184!! EDIT TO ADD ... Now we are all excellent drivers and never have accidents, so we don't need insurance really, do we? Well, I wasn't driving, but if I had been, how excellent a driver would I need to be to avoid a drunk? Or a goat jumping out of the underbrush?

Hello Dennis glad you are recovering well. I would look for another holiday insurance my hubby had one with his bank and they increased it to a lot more than yours cost so he found a cheaper one online 😀

Hi Dennis
We did have free travel insurance with Lloyds current account. As you know I suffered a brain stem injury many years ago; 10 years ago we decided to take a holiday but had the gumption to check what we were actually covered for - guess what?
Because of my injury (suffered in 1991) absolutely nothing. We use insure and go for all our travel polices now and their brilliant. The PPI for a miss sold package bank account paid for an extra trip abroad !!

Hmm. I am fairly convinced now that most insurance is sold to make profits for the insurance companies and I'm going to look again at just what my free stuff covers - for the monthly fee of £16.
But I'd still want the bike and quad hirers to think what they are risking.

Your policy booklet looks exactly like ours, Dennis, so I'm guessing it's with NatWest. Before we travelled abroad for the first time following Paul's brain tumour treatment I phoned them to tell them what had happened and to see if we still had cover. I was told that the policy covers us for everything as normal, unless attributable to the tumour or treatment. We decided to take the risk (which we consider slight)and haven't taken any additional insurance out.
