Winter dreaming here, folks. Please forgive me.
Okay, pretty self-explanatory, but I'll put some meat on the bone.
Let's say you come by a bit of money. Enough to pay off your debts and mortgage, upgrade to a very nice house in the UK, and sort out any other financial shenanigans necessary.
You have some money left. You can buy or build a property anywhere on the island, this can be to live there permanently, or to come and go as you please.
Where on the island would you live?
Let's say that whatever you choose you can afford, and if it comes to building something new there'll be no planning problems.
I love the Koukounaries area. Pros is it's on the bus route, has great beaches, bars, tavernas, etc., and enough shops to use as 'convenience stores'. Cons are that it's about as far from town as you can get, the buses can get full in summer, and the 'village' itself isn't actually right next to the beach (the wildlife preserve is in the way!).
Troulos & Achladies are more 'half way'. Achladies is best served by the water taxis, but has fewer decent-sized stores, fewer tavernas and bars than Troulos; I might be wrong, but I believe Troulos is probably the biggest 'settlement' outside of Skiathos Town.
I like the positioning of the Golden King Villas, which are just on the town sde of Kasandra Bay. It's right next to the beach, out of town but close enough to walk in and out, and close enough that taxis are cheap.
Then there's the area in and around town. All the amenities, but crowded.
Anyone care to play?

I'd choose in town every time, and not new i;d like traditional house in a residential area so i then i could ask someone to keep an eye out when im not there for any problems. A roof terrace and little courtyard be lovely and a woodburner so i could visit in winter. if you want to spend time there out of season town is best for tavernas to be open. oh wouldnt it be lovely

Great post!
I've often thought about that.
You know, we usually stay by the beach, then go out into town on a night?
Reverse that, and stay in the town, get the bus to the beach in the day.
One thing though, I do love getting the water taxi from Achladies on an evening. It's just a fantastic part of the feel of the island.
When I was younger (many years ago), I have fond memories of a Friday & Saturday night in the summer: have a shower, best threads on, out to the bus stop, waiting for the next bus in the sun, it's still light. There's a certain feel to that which was quite special.
Similar with the water taxis. Baking on the beach all day, hot and sweaty, back to the hotel for a shower and your best togs. Then wait in the sun for the water taxi. Grab a beer if you're (accidently) early. Then get on board, sit on the deck up front if you can, wind in your face as you head to town. It's not just a mode of transport.

i loved the water taxi when we stayed d in Achladies 20 years ago especially sitting at the front. nowdays we like town and bus or taxi to beaches in the day. Also love Megali Ammos Angeliki or Aphrodite studios easy walk into town at night and the view from the room to die for.

Unlimited funds, I'd buy koukounaries beach, close it to the public, build my luxury villa in the pine trees next to the beach and enjoy the solitude, but I am an only child! Not really 😁 I'm with Cariad, old house in the town, log fire, rooftop terrace facing the harbour, bliss!

I forgot to check my ticket last night, so it wasn't until just an hour ago that I learned that I didn't win £152.4 million (indeed, that I didn't even win £2.60), so I was holding off before commenting here. In the absence of much money, I have to sit back and read what you lot would do, because I haven't the faintest idea where I'd build, except that it would be on Skiathos. Not too high for my climbing ability (lack of), not where the floods go in stormy weather, flat stroll to the beach. Near a man with a fridge full of VERY cold beers.

I'm enjoying reading these. I might do something similar for next to Maratha - there is actually a house just behind it (no idea who owns it).
Biggest (only?) problem with Maratha is no toilets - sorted!

You'll have to copy & paste that link.
Here's a daft thing. I'd like to be somewhere where I could get up and walk for a paper every morning. Okay, not a paper. Maybe a pint of milk. Just get up, and have a stroll.

This is fun! I'm part of the town gang. I'd like a little white house with blue doors and windows, a roof terrace with sea views - oh, and heating so we could visit out of season. Nothing too fancy - two bedrooms would be good and two bathrooms, so there are no queues when we have visitors. Plakes is a great location, Dave, but not too near the old port, as the bars are (apparently) really loud til 5am!
Oh to dream!

There was a very nice looking 2 bedroom apartment for sale in town on one of the websites last year that I was getting very interested in but it has gone off the site so presumably sold. Central heating and air con in both bedrooms and the main living room, was less than 70 thouand Euros including all furniture, kitchen appliances etc. It only came up for sale after I had been last year or I might have tried to sneak a viewing in. Kate - I've looked at that one online too. I've also been keeping an eye on this, it's just a few doors down from the Pan jeweller's, I took mum to look at the outside last year and she was getting quite interested. It does need money spending to get it up to spec though (air con, better heating etc) but has potential : The flat I saw later last year online looked much better value, no wonder it sold quickly.

That's a good price, Kev. I get all excited when I look at the property sites, but sensibly (what a boring word!!) you could buy an awful lot of holidays for £100k ..... and not have any upkeep costs/headaches!

It really is a shame Skiathos is only a seasonal destination, although watch this space, myself and a good friend, whom we met in Skiathos, both being real ale fans, we are looking at options for setting up a micro brewery on the island, Just an idea but gaining momentum.
