Of note, it was a bit strange when we got off the plane. The ‘wall of heat’ didn’t hit us, despite it being around 27. Maybe they had the temperature on the plane higher than usual They might have turned off the aircon to save fuel?

Maybe they had the temperature on the plane higher than usual They might have turned off the aircon to save fuel? Theo and Julie both commented that they felt chilly on the plane, so my guess was probably wrong.

Ottimo last night, still very good. We went there last year as a part of six, twice. Then as a party of four last night.
I think over those 16 meals we’ll have had most things on the menu, and they’ve all been great.
Sat on Maratha now. We got here at around 10:30 and were lucky to get sun beds.

All the sun beds on Maratha now appear to belong to the Palace.
In a few years we’ve seen the price of a pair + parasol go up from €8 to €10, and now to €20 a day.
As the kids are bigger they get their own pair, so that’s €40 for a day at the beach.
I seem to remember having the idea a couple of years ago of buying a beach chair and parasol here. Might have to dig that idea out again.

Ouch! 40 euro a day is a bit steep. Can't you be really mean & make them pay for their own from their holiday spends? ..... Only kidding!!

Town last night, Mythos Bar and Asprolithos. All quite busy.
Got on the bus okay going, plenty of room at 25, everyone on board had a mask on.
Coming home (from 4) the bus was full, with a few standing, but they let us on. Again, everyone was masked up, and seats became available within a few stops.
Lamb Stifado (Asprolithos appear to have stopped doing rabbit) and the house Merlot remain a great combination.

Either they’re big enough to have their own spending money so they can pay the full 40 for the whole family, or they’re kids so stop bothering the grownups and go build a sand castle, dig a hole to fill with water and go find Skiathos pearls - the one with the most gets a (small) ice cream.

So, we’re only here for a week. Indeed, we travel back on Monday.
So today to Sunday that’s 4 full days.
If we alternate between pool and beach, that’s two more lots of €40 = €80.
If we were here for a fortnight, going to the beach every day would be prohibitively expensive. But on its own, that €80 isn’t quite so bad.

Hmm. 80 Euros will feed us for two days in (just over) a fortnight’s time!

20 for a pair of beds and a brolley is more than my Yorkshire genes could tolerate Im afraid. Id be down to gyros under the pines, up the sandy track and trekking of to Mandraki before you could say tsatsiki 😀

Well I’d certainly send the kids off to walk in the forest, with only bread crumbs to mark the trail back!

A bit of an odd one, this.
You know Greek Salad? It’s just Greek Salad. You cut things up and put them in a bowl. What could go wrong.
And okay, whilst it’s difficult for anything to go wrong, not all Greek Salads are equal.
Well, Sunset Studios are just very basic self catering rooms, which run a very limited menu for any guests not wanting to bother venturing out.
I’ve just had their Greek Salad for (a very long) lunch, and it was fantastic. The balance was fewer tomatoes but more cucumber than the average, but that was just fine with me.

Places do get very particular about how they do things and it causes problems if you want something different from a set menu. I recall at Mandraki Xerxes beach I was going to have just bread and feta with olive oil and a sprinkling of oregano. No problem there. However at last minute I fancied a bit of tomato on the side. It took a family conference covering 3 generations to decide what I should be charged for that.

Regarding the sun bed reservation debacle, I’m assuming, surely it’s not any of our British brethren who are undertaking this ghastly act. We/intend to associate such activities with some of our Eastern European and scandi neighbours. When our son got married, many moons ago, in Cyprus, our hotel was full of Russian holidaymakers, we had a real difficulty to get a sun bed, the hotel was all inclusive ( not my ideal holiday) goodness me they milked the free bar and restaurants.

What is it with the White View at the Palace?
We went there in 2017, fantastic.
I looked forward to it when I went along in October ‘19, but it was closed. Last week of the season, low numbers exaggerated by TC going under, and heavy & prolonged rain the previous week - they just felt it wasn’t worth clearing up for one quiet week.
2020, closed due to Covid.
Okay, so we booked for 8:00pm last night. No problem. Then we had a heavy but short thunderstorm at 6:30. When we arrived, they said it was too soon to clear up, so the White View was closed, but we could sit downstairs, same menu. No thanks, we’ve come for the view.
Anyway, they said they’d have no problem clearing up for tonight, and would be open, as long as it doesn’t suddenly rain again. So we’ve re-booked for 8:00 tonight.
We went to Big Bad Wolf instead. No Kleftiko. DISASTER! Lamb chops were fine. Julie’s chicken salad was great.
