Ooooh Dave - brilliant posts, am with you every step of the way. It's a bit sad when old favourites close, but exciting that new ones are opening up! Did you notice if Archontiko (next to Syrainos) is open? Aggelos from there has now moved to the King & Queens, next to Koziakas. Please keep up the good work. I really can't wait now .... 19 days for me Hi Kate, yes Archontiko is open, Syrainos still not occupied

Dave, that’s another fantastic post. I hope it didn’t take you too long to recreate.
The wine tour looks great. I’m not sure we’ll get to do it in a few weeks, hopefully it’ll be open in September.
Have you noticed anything new regarding prices on the island?
Cheers.

Prices seem to have increased slightly, large beer 4:50€ in most places, half carafe house wine 6/7€, sunbeds mainly 10€ for 2 with brolly, bus seems to be charging the same as are taxis, unsure how long this will remain as diesel is 2:50€ on the island

Today started bright but very breezy, we decided to spend the day at kanapitsa, with the boat taxi not yet running we made the choice of the bus to stop number 13 and then walk the headland back to Kanapitsa beach. A pleasant but windy walk with a couple of pauses at a bench to take in the views, we passed some stunning villas and noticed a lot of new construction works in the area, renovation work to the Plaza hotel ( now Raddison) is progressing well and looks impressive. Unfortunately Kanapitsa is not fully open for business yet so walked around the bay to Nostos, the Baracoa taverna is fully open, nice and comfortable seating areas , beach area has bean bag seats and fire pits, obviously set up for the party set later in the season. We ate in the taverna, club sandwich but very nice, the only downside was what Dennis would describe as loud Bangy thumping music, I’m unsure what this adds to the beach experience. Bus back to stop 4 then a stroll down via papadiamanti street stopping in Mythos for a drink. In the evening we met with our friends in Ginfish , I’m not a fan of cocktails but braved a (Word Deleted) Mary, and I have to say it’s one of the better ones I’ve tasted. Table booked at Richie o poverie at 7:45, table at front of the balcony with great views out over the bay and the Bourtzi, fabulous food as always, well worth the hike up the slope, a multitude of tapas dishes plus 2 bottles of the house wine, Bill just shy of 120€ for the 5 of us. We then ventured to the Skye bar, we used to visit back in the day when it was the rooftop ran by Roy and Margie, a huge transformation very swish and clinical, a quick G&T as again loud bangy music. Tomorrow will hopefully be a day at the beach, but again an enjoyable day today

I like the sound of tapas dishes and reasonable price. Prices don’t seem to have increased as much as here. I’m noticing certain items going up by large amounts . Dog food up by £2 bag for example and rinse aid for dishwasher. I remember foofyop bar my first visit to Skiathos around 22 years ago. I know what you mean about music you need to be able to talk and hear other person. Music seems to blast out everywhere now I’d prefer supermarkets to be silent. We sat in a garden of pub in Norfolk music so loud I’d couldn’t think we left prefer to listen to seagulls. Skiathos has always cost more Found a lot of things more expensive in Skiathos because they have to ferried in. I were amazed how much cheaper food and drink were in the mani. Great reports Dave thanks

Brilliant.
Baracoa sell Eza Pilsner, did you try?
Skye Bar we enjoyed last year. The music the had on at the time was a bit more ambient, as I remember. Great views.
A Bloomin’ Mary is meant to be a pick-me-up drink at brunch. I prefer a Red Snapper (cocktail, not the fish), which is like a BM, but gin instead of vodka, and plenty of Tabasco.
I think €4.50 for a large beer is still pretty reasonable. A shame it’s gone up at all of course but, like Dennis, it’s not going to put me off.

I don’t have a very discerning palate. My beer (lager?) needs to be cold, light coloured and colder than cold. I believe I’m on record as saying I like (occasional) sweet wine, not bothered by the colour. I confess that I don’t like sour wine (or Reftsina) BUT after the third glass I’ll drink both happily enough. Welcome to peasants corner!

No other way to describe today’s weather but cold, we normally visit early May, but the weather this year is the coolest I can remember, I think weather anywhere in the world is becoming harder to predict, I will add this has by no way detracted from our holiday, we have just adjusted our itinerary to suit. Also a couple of days of sunshine but breezy. We where informed kanapitsa taverna was opening today, as the boat taxi not yet running, ( evidently the licence only starts next Wednesday) we phoned Nikos our tame taxi driver to drop us off, a mistake taverna nowhere near ready to open, although the sunbeds are on the beach it was blowing a Hoolie, we decided to walk around to Nostos and have a coffee before catching the bus back to town. Sat patiently at bus stop 12 along with a very pleasant young man whilst 2 buses sailed past without stopping, a symptom of the bad weather and boat taxis not running I guess. Back in town we returned to the hotel to pick up our jackets before heading to the Bourtzi, I can’t think of a better place to kill a few hours, excellent food and ambiance, they now serve my choice of beer ,Repi, and no thumpy music, in fact the background music totally fits with the setting. We were surprised as to how quiet the Bourtzi was, perhaps visitors at this time are unaware of its existence, town was busy with all harbour front bars/ tavernas doing excellent business. I would guess town venues now 90% open, one noticeable unopened restaurant is Lo&La, this venue appears to be like marmite to visitors , Dimitri opening his new venture in Helloniki next week, tables out in portobello, Dinos opened last night. The weather forecast tomorrow looks better, as does next week, we don’t fly till nighttime so hopefully can squeeze in a visit to the town beach, I believe cafe del mar opened today, a favourite of ours for lunch. We have to depart our room by 11am , as it’s a premium sea view it has incoming occupants, however for only 20€ we can have the use of another room till we depart, money well spent in our opinion. . Meeting our friends at main street bar at 6pm, a favourite of ours, great background music and a fab people watching spot, we then have a table booked at Scala, a 1st visit for us , as it’s the sister restaurant to R&P expecting good things. I shall post this evening shenanigans later.

Tame Taxi driver Is it a prerequisite of this site that you have to post offensive views of other people ?? Nikos is a personal friend of ours , he is not tame , he is no ones man , he is a good man . Please learn the Greek way to say things

What can I say about our last evening of this trip, a change in meet up plans, papadiamanti too windy so met in Mythos for a drink before the restaurant, booked into Scala [ previously Mediterranean] this being the sister restaurant of Richie o pouverie so we had high hopes, trust me we were not disappointed, the setting , the service and wow the food all excellent. The restaurant is looked after by Christos son, a charming man, educated at Stirling university in Scotland for those interested, we ordered starters to share consisting of , smoked mackerel, garlic mushrooms, roasted haloumi and Mexican spiced wedges, our mains where, 2x chicken in mustard sauce, a pasta dish, salmon with prawns and mussels, I had roast duck with spinach and plum sauce, side orders of dauphinois potatoes, we washed it down with 2;bottles of the palatable house white, the total bill was about 150€, the duck alone in the uk would have cost £40ish, the quality was Michelin standard,. It was only after we had eaten and talked to Christos That he informed us that he had the islands renowned top Chef Andy in the kitchen, if any of you have eaten in any venue he has previously worked will know the standard of his cooking. Following the meal we headed to Main Street and phedrocks to say our goodbyes. Yet,another fantastic day Not leaving till tomorrow evening so hoping for good weather so we can visit the beach. Hope my waffling hasn’t been too much waxing and not enough lyrical, I shall update on our last day and summarise when we return to blighty

Alekos, I’m not Admin, these are my personal comments.
I have to now deduce that English is not your first language as you have completely misunderstood the usage of “Tame” in this thread. It comes under the heading of “regular”, “preferred”, “familiar”, “friendly”, “sought-after”, “top quality”, etc, etc, etc. Many other descriptions meaning the absolute opposite of how you understand “tame”.
Apology would be a good move and a resolve to think twice in future before coming to conclusions that someone is being offensive. Remember, this is an English language site, so urging people to learn the Greek way to say things is very odd.

Thanks for the review of Scala Dave, I will put in the 'to do' list for later this year as I've always enjoyed the food at R&P. Considering its in such a prime location and with the type of menu they offer with a fairly wide selection of dishes I've always found it fairly sensibly priced for what you get. That has been a pre-booked 'last night' meal on occasion in the past but I'm not waiting 2 weeks to go there this time!
