you get a free pass for seville as its family, they are priority, excused teneife if lots of posts in May We’re actually going with 2 other couples and staying in town (city), it’s the touring international food festival, Seville being a marvellous place to visit anyway this is a fabulous event, will obviously catch up with son and family, I believe Sunday is set aside to watch 10 year old play football for his academy.possibly against real Betis. that apart there’s a lot of time between new year and May, who knows where we’ll end up, a big wide world

We should currently be celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary (Today) in sunny Naples. However, due a sick pussycat we cancelled at the end of last week.

Anyone who thinks Skiathos has been ruined by tourism, they should give Tenerife a go.
Actually, ‘ruined’ is a bit strong. But between the airport and here (Los Gigantes - about 40 minutes away) it’s just one massive hotel complex.
Above us there’s a hotel carved into the cliff. Every year my family return, they’ve added an extra level/floor further up the cliff.
The hotel is smashing, and the all inclusive food and drink are good - better than my last AI holiday in Greece.

As the OP of this theme I thought I should report back on my visit to Benidorm. I was delighted with my hotel, the Villa Del Mar which is right on the front at Poniente beach. The room was beautiful, all the staff were fantastic, the food was delicious and varied and the drink was all branded names. There was a nice little outdoor pool on the ground floor and a sun terrace and spa on the roof. It was the first time I had stayed all inclusive and I was really impressed. Unfortunately the weather didn’t play fair as we had a thunderstorm late on the first night, resulting in a lot of damage and huge tracks of both beaches washed away in four places. It also knocked out the lift in the hotel - and my room was on the fourth floor! The damage resulted in an unfortunate smell of sewage all along the sea front. I was very impressed by the speed with which the council and private companies set about repairing everything. Thankfully, the hotel lift was repaired by lunchtime. There were two extremely dangerous threats of which I had not been aware. One was the number of people, over the age of fifty, who would creep up behind you on mobility machines, some of which were tandem, but both of which were silent. Often the first you would know about it was when your ankles were clipped. The second threat came from those, under the age of twenty five, using battery powered scooters, again completely silently. I found the old town interesting, for the first couple of days, but as it consists of just bars and restaurants, all packed to the gunwhales, and a few “dubious establishments”, the novelty soon wore off for me. I did enjoy a lot of walking so I suppose my fitness improved, but I’m afraid that Benidorm was not for me. I’m even thinking about removing the friends who recommended it from my Christmas card list! Bring on Skiathos.

Obviously, loads of differences, but here are a few notable ones.
All you can see is hotels, bars, restaurants, shops. It’s very difficult to spot a building that’s not tourism-related. I could be anywhere on Tenerife, or mainland Spain; apart from the giant cliffs it has no local character.
It’s very cheap. We’re all inclusive, but when we venture out we pay very little. €2 a beer.

I’m with my dad and brothers, each of whom have been here more often than I’ve been to Skiathos, so I’m following their lead. Very much enjoying myself. The food and drink included with AI are streets ahead of what we got with AI in Crete.

Only time Ive ever been to Tenerife was a bit out of season (early) and I picked Santa Cruz as there were some good looking hiking trails that could be done from bus stops. Got a fixed one off bus pass for about 20 euro and went all over, including a day out where YM looks to be staying.

One difference, I’m not seeing a lot of Spanish food.
In Greece, whilst a few restaurants offer a more international cuisine, most tavernas have stifado, kleftiko, Greek salad, lamb chops, moussaka, etc.
I’ve just not seen the equivalent here. Being AI, we’ve mainly eaten in, and yes I’ve had paella once. But eating out, I’ve had fried chicken, steak, and a burger.
