Well guys I am the one fortunate enough to be arriving in Skiathos next Monday, so many negative posts on other sites on subject varying from cost to sunbed pre booking, all I can do is post my honest views of how I see things. Having visited since the 90s the island certainly has developed but I think in a non obtrusive/ negative way, however let’s see

I first went about 25 years ago, i dont think its changed that much, we stayed at esperides then, hired a boat kouk was lovely then not saturated with packed in sunbeds. aweather so far this yrear has been poor but thats what you expect early may, i would necer go then. mid you a few years ago we had about 4 days rain spaced out in july. Im lucky to have visited about 16 islands skiathos still my very favourite, i cant put my finger on what it is , but the atmosphere is unique.

Excellent comments from you both.
Dave, I’m looking forward to your drivel this year; you’re going to be my warm-up act. 🤣
Your threads are always a good read, I’m really looking forward to this.
The forecast is looking good for you. Monday when you arrive it’s cloudy but dry and 18, Tuesday the same but 20 (small chance of a quick, light shower mid-afternoon). Then it’s wall-to-wall sunshine, no cloud, no rain, 23-24 Wednesday and Thursday. Hopefully good after that for the weekend.
I’m sorry Dave, but with those temperatures, you’re going to have to have a beer on the beach.

Both tired after travelling today so early night so will again try to post today’s trauma. Set off from home to the airport at 4:45 this morning only to find M56 shut between junction 11/12 meaning a 30 minute diversion for us, ok left in plenty of time. Parking ‘meet and greet’ not an issue so headed to jet2 bagdrop having already booked in on line, not so simple IT issues meaning pre printed boarding cards not recognised, another nuisance getting boarding pass recognised, all sorted quite swiftly and didn’t really hinder us too much. On to security, unfortunately stuck behind, with the best will in the world, what I can only describe as bimbos, question, ‘ have you got any electronic devices’ , response, ‘ no but I’ve got a hair dryer, straighteners and curling tongs’ don’t get me onto the liquid situation. Again we’re off on holiday so laughed it off. Airport fine, flight showing on time, every one boarded and seated with 10 minutes to spare, fabulous we thought, but oh no, the captain comes over the tannoy and announces the French ATC have gone on strike hence we’re delayed by 30 minutes. Flight no problem, usual jet2 service, landed only 20 minutes behind schedule which is not unusual. Left plane looking forward to a good week ahead, cases arrived within minutes of us clearing passport control. Now it gets messy, please take note. Skiathos airport now scans all incoming baggage both hold and hand, the lady( I use the term loosely) running the operation is small in stature put in presence, she must have failed the charm school exam. I diversify, we got contacted by a friend who runs a bar in town asking if we could pick up a few bottles of spirits that he can’t get locally and bring the, out, 3 bottles in total, no issue for ourselves we’re always below weight limits., however we did not, I know ignorance is not a defence, realise that post brexit 1 litre each is maximum allowance. We regularly fly into Spain to visit our son and his family and have never once been asked about volumes of alcohol we may be carrying. When asked we readily admitted to be carrying 3 litres of spirits , my oh my I believe all the small ladies Christmas had come at once, I had to hand over my passport and wait until certain checks had been made and paperwork prepared, at this point I felt like part of a major smuggling cartel,. After being made to sign what I can only describe as a confession I was then fined the princely sum of €16…75 nearly the cost of the offending bottle. I will add that this security check process is absolutely slowing down the arrival to on coach time, much to the annoyance of both reps and coach drivers. When we arrived at our hotel I can only describe the weather as disappointing, quite chilly for an afternoon however we can deal with that. Spent time typing my initial travel update only for the non compliance bear to dis me, 🤬 Check in and hotel all up to scratch, been out locally, snacks rather than full meals, couple of drinks now an early night. Not the best of starts, but we will make the most of whatever this week throws at us

Hooray!! Dave turns up trumps with our first report of the year. Scrumptious.
If the lady charm school dropout is still campaigning on 1st September AND IF I get there, I’ll do a gushing campaign at her. Remember, I’m the one who got on superbly with the nice lady bus conductor bloke.

Did the Earth move for you this morning, Dave? Actually yes, a slight wobble on the balcony about 10 am, assumed it may be a tremor

Did the Earth move for you this morning, Dave? Actually yes, a slight wobble on the balcony about 10 am, assumed it may be a tremor Well don’t mention it within hearing of a medical person - I’ve got one and I’ve been referred to Neurology who say they’ve put me on the list and my name will come up in about 48 weeks to get an appointment letter! Guess I’ll have developed screaming Parkinson’s by then, save them doing tests!

Dennis I was referring to an earth tremor as in quake, Waiting for a test is like Russian roulette, you will probably win the lottery before any consultant gets in touch, pay go private

Dennis I was referring to an earth tremor as in quake, Waiting for a test is like Russian roulette, you will probably win the lottery before any consultant gets in touch, pay go private It’s the way I tell them - I thought you meant as in quake, and I thought you’d need cheering up with one of my best jokes. It’s all about timing. Anyway the cardio surgeon has first bite at me, long before the 48 weeks Parkinson’s bloke.
