Just a final post , overcast this morning but the forecast thunder storm didn’t occur. Arrived at airport before the coaches and sailed through check in and security, oddly the upstairs cafeteria isn’t open, I thought this would be up and running by now. Incoming jet2 was 15 minutes late arriving, not unacceptable at all, all boarded and ready to go half hour late the good news being the captain said we could make up time and arrive around schedule. All good with the flight until we arrived on stand, the issue being we parked at terminal 2 instead of terminal 1 , crew informed us the plane was departing from 2 with a quick turnaround. We always select seats at the front of the aircraft, this flight row 3, but we had to disembark from the rear door and then get bussed to terminal 1 to complete passport control and collect our luggage, amazingly our luggage arrived very quickly and we picked up car no problems and an uneventful journey home. Although the weather wasn’t at its best Skiathos delivered us another amazing weeks holiday

We thought we may return in September for a cheeky week, just looked at availability of packages, WOW so expensive, not unaffordable but don’t like paying over the odds, will look at flight only option tomorrow. i think it’s a fine line for tour operators, profit or repeat trade

My question is “Are the accommodation owners getting their fair proportion of the increased holiday prices?” Another is have increases been applied to holiday components which don’t seem to be vulnerable to inflation and/or covid etc? (Selecting seats, extra luggage weights etc).

I couldn’t say for sure. But as both package holidays and direct book accommodation appear to be increasing their prices equally rapidly, it doesn’t look like the TCs are just baking a fast buck.
Just one point on items immune to inflation - that wouldn’t be the case with paying extra for overweight luggage. More weight requires more fuel, which is currently a big driver of inflation.
In generally, rising inflation has led to rising wages, though not enough to keep up. Rising wages will put up the price of everything.

Whilst I appreciate the principle, I can fly to the Canary Islands, a longer distance for less than half the price. I’m sure the airlines wage structure and overhead cost doesn’t vary to that extent between destinations

I knew I was naughty citing extra weight, but I needed more than one item plus “etc” to fill the post! However, it’s an easy get out for TOs for adding extra charges and I think they will have loadsa figures showing the average, or mean, extra weights they have carried over the years. Do you think they’ll hold the extra percentage weight to the extra percentage price? Or am I being funny (odd funny, not laughing funny)?

Not sure, outside of fuel, wages, and servicing the plane. Paying the airports? I’m not sure that accounts for it. If I had to guess, I suppose I’d note that flight prices fluctuate wildly - it’s not like buying a bunch of bananas. The prices are clearly ‘market-led’, and will settle at what will make them the most money. That’s not new this year, they’ve always been like that. As an example, SWMBO had to pay about £90 for her outward flight, and £180 for the return. Now I know why any of us might love the idea of flying out here and not coming back, the truth is we almost all have to, so I can’t get my head round that difference. But I don’t think it’s rip off, or at least any more of a rip off than usual, but I think it’s just that Skiathos is incredibly popular.

I'm only just catching up on some of the feedback threads, been very busy sorting the garden out in Torquay. Dave, just assume I've pressed the like button on all your reports.
