Port house tonight at 7.30 and then we're having a look at Sinners. May see you in there as I’ve not been for a couple of nights. If the band is the same as last night (just saw a Facebook video) I won’t stay, though. I’m quite picky with live music 🤭

Wednesday Awake early to get ready for a beach day at Achladies. I had breakfast at More on the old port - monkey bread (a delicious sort of croissant with ice cream) and peach iced tea. I met my friends (it was a birthday for one of them) and we caught the 10 am water taxi to Achladies, which was €3.50 … good value. The beach wasn’t busy, so we chose beds in front of the Esperides … €15 for 5 beds. We had lunch at the new Octopus beach bar, very modern and bright, though not expensive. The staff were all very welcoming, especially Thomas the owner and Sandy the black poodle! I had a special summer salad with fruit, nuts & halloumi cheese plus a coke for €18. I’d never been to the Paradise bar, which closed (I think) in lockdown, but the Octopus will definitely be a regular must do for me.
After a spot more sunbathing/reading I enjoyed a glass of wine at Mojo whilst waiting for the 4,15 pm boat back to town. I stooped off for a cuppa at Meltemi cafe and think I saw Kurt Douglas in the Crazy Spoon and then getting onto a small boat opposite. Someone else thought they’d seen him too … I would never approach or stalk him & Goldie, but it’s interesting to see them looking just as normal as everyone else!
Before dinner I went to a brand new cocktail bar, Turquoise, next to Kabourelias on the old port. A friend of mine, Heather, has opened it and it was lovely to support her. She’s been living here for over a year now and it’s taken this long to get through all the red tape and to actually open. The plan is to also do food (she’s a wedding caterer by profession) but they have a staffing problem at the moment, so are sticking to drinks only for a while. Heather looked a bit frazzled when I arrived as I’d hit a busy spell. I really hope that the bar is successful - my Aperol Spritz was delicious and €7 in happy hour.
I’d booked a table at Vesuvio for 9pm and arrived just as some friends had sat down, so I joined them for dinner. I don’t mind eating alone but it’s obviously nicer to have company! I had warm bread with garlic dip and then four cheese penne pasta, plus a glass of wine and the bill was €16.50- great value!
I’d intended to call in at Gerani for a hot chocolate, but I was absolutely shattered after a couple of late nights, so went straight back to the hotel and slept like a log 😴
To be continued ….

Thursday:
Up late-ish and had brunch at Fresh … bacon, 2 eggs, chips salad and toast was lovely but probably a bit too much for me as I was then full for the rest of the day. After that, a walk to Mylos to watch planes and wait for a friend arriving just after midday, along with some other old friends, who are staying in Koukounaries so it was the first time we’d met up. The plane was on time, but it took ages for Andrew to get to us with the slow arrivals process at the airport lately. When he arrived we shared some food and ahead a couple of beers … I managed a tiny amount of Greek salad.
They went off on the bus to Kouk and I walked on to Gerani for a coffee - just in time, as it had started to drizzle a little. I ordered a frappe and spotted Vlatko crossing the road (the lovely guy who used to run the bar and entertainment at the Myrtia Summer village for the last ten years or so). He joined me for a catch-up, then we were joined by two of my friends and it turned out they had lots in common (skiing, Austria, old friends on Skiathos) so we spent a very pleasant hour until the weather cleared again.
After a nap and shower I went out quite late, spotted some other friends and was invited to join them in Suga on the old port for a drink (or two). More people joined us and we had a lovely hour until they went off to eat. I’d declined to join them as still wasn’t hungry and decided to a go to see my friend Heather at Turquoise. It was quite late by this time and was quiet at the bar, so she joined me (to rest her aching feet as she’s the greeter) and have a natter. Heather had made some delicious nibbles to serve with the cocktails so we shared the evening’s leftovers along with a couple of glasses of wine - very nice. I really hope she does well - there’s such a lot of competition on the old port. Straight to bed afterwards- it was suddenly 1am and everywhere was closing!
To be continued…

Thank you Steven … I don’t seem to do much pre-planning and enjoy just going with the flow 😄. (And it seems that the majority of Skiathos regulars that I know are here right now!) Am actually doing something pre-planned for the next two evenings 🤭

Glad you are having a good time Kate, not sure whether to pass on the info to mum when I go see her on Tues as it will probably only remind her she should have been there too by now. It really would have been a shock if you'd seen Kirk Douglas in the Spoon ;-)

Friday: A beach day was calling, so I caught a bus to #4 (€2) as I was late getting organised & wanted to ensure a sunbed on Siferi. Got the last 2 … soon joined by friend Lynda, who nabbed one and found a spare one for her other half. It’s €12 for two beds + brolly there. I’d skipped breakfast, so had an early lunch at Cafe del Mar … a special omelette and Repi beer. It was a lovely, relaxing day - cloudy but v warm. I even had a dip in the sea!
I’d arranged to meet up with Solo Boomer member, June, for dinner. We had a cocktail first at Pecan (the usual happy hour €7 but not the best) and then we decided on dinner at Mouria … I had moussaka, June chose a chicken pasta and with half a litre of wine it was €20 each, including a tip. It started to rain a little just as we finished, so we went our separate ways. On the way back ‘home’ I called in at Mood for a nightcap with my beach companions from earlier. One drink & I was almost falling asleep 💤 … Lynda said “are you hammered or just kn****red! …. How very rude! 😂. It was definitely the latter, so I left and was in bed early for a change!
Saturday: Awoke to very heavy rain 🌧️, with some thunder til midday. I stayed in my room, reading and doing some sketching, and ventured out for a bite to eat around midday. It was a mooching round town sort of day, so that’s what we did. I bought a silver bracelet in Pan jewellery and asked if he had any Skiathos Pearl earrings, as I had lost one of mine. He didn’t - apparently, the shells have been in very short supply for the last couple of years so it looks as though I won’t be able to replace the one I lost. Shame. My companions and I made our way to Papadiamanti Street and who should we bump into in one of the shops but Goldie Hawn. We were (obviously) very polite and pretended not to recognise her … although the shopkeepers seemed very excited to see her.
I went out quite late to meet up for dinner at O Batis with two couples. I’ve known one of the ladies for years from Facebook and we message each other regularly but this was the first time we had actually met in ‘real life’. We had a lovely meal … I had bream and the others all had either stifado or meatballs. Three of us ended up in Totem until closing time - it was the same band I’d seen a couple of weeks ago and they seemed to have improved since then. We walked back together as my friends are staying at the hotel Christina, just behind the Akti, and I slept very soundly indeed!
