One of the best meals I have eaten on the island was at Mouria :-)

Sunday: No surprise that I was up late after being at Totem until closing! Brunch at More (a very fancy huge croissant and good cup of tea), then wandered up to the church square to look for some arched windows to take photos of (for the photo challenge FB group I’m in). I had a look in the window of the lovely shop that’s just above Pan in the pretty street at the side of the church and to my delight they had Skiathos Pearl earrings, reasonable priced and exactly what I was looking for. I walked back to Akti and sat on the balcony as the clouds had cleared by this time and the weather was improving- though still windy. I finished the sketch I had done the day before, using my watercolours, and was quite pleased with the result. However - I didn’t anchor the paper down properly when I went to change the water and a gust of wind sent it up and away! Grrrr 😖
That evening it was out for dinner at Hellinikon … 15 of us had a lovely evening with much laughter. The food and service was excellent and €20 per head included a healthy tip. It's advisable to book a table these days, as it always seems full. A few of us ended the evening with a nightcap at Main Street, where I’ve not been for ages. It was most convivial and we all enjoyed the music.
Monday: I was up early to pack and check out of the Akti, a bit of a hassle, but soon done. I then had a late breakfast at Fresh (and was seated next to G&K - not Douglas folks, definitely Russell! 🤣).
Afterwards, I had a couple of hours to kill before I could check in at the Water, so sat in 7 Sins to read & ferry watch, with a coffee and then an iced tea. I trundled along the Old Port, feeling like a bag lady, received a warm greeting from the Water’s manager, Dimitris, and was soon in my room - a lovely, triple sea view one was all they had available when I booked - and I’m very happy with it!

Great news about finding the earrings but not so great about losing your sketch. Commiserations on the latter. :-(

How you getting on at The Water, not seen you yet, you must be partying late😄 Not too late! Usually back around midnight. Are you on the first or second floor? I’m second, right next to GinFish and haven’t seen a soul except Dimitris, though I did see two ladies checking out this evening. Am loving it here, but not managing to spend much time in the room.

We're same floor other end. Yes it's lovely although almost too bright and hot to have our brekky on the balcony! Were you a group of 4 outside Main Street last night?

Yes - we were there for a nightcap. I’ve just had to come in from having my morning cuppa on the balcony as it’s too dazzling, if there is such a thing!

Tuesday: A beach day, so I walked through the back streets to Siferi and was on the beach for just after ten. Even at that time most beds had gone! A lovely day of reading and swimming followed, with a toastie and juice for brunch. In the evening I bused down to Koukounaries and had dinner with three long-standing friends at the Myrtia, which has really upped its game in the food stakes and also had a mini-makeover of the bar area. There are now comfy sofas. We had a nice welcome from the new people there - although it was strange not seeing V and Stephanos who used to have the bar and restaurant. To start, I had bread and dips and the others shared a bowl of mussels (I can’t eat shellfish). For mains, I had a pork steak in a sweet balsamic sauce with dauphinois potatoes, my friends had chicken breast stuffed with feta. All the food was excellent and very good value at just under €20 a head and the house wine was probably the nicest I’ve had so far. I’ll definitely return to eat there again.
Afterwards, we had a pleasant walk down the track to the Agustera where it was lovely to see Dino and the Sofias again. I just caught the last bus back to town, though had to flag it down in the middle of stops 23 & 24, so I was lucky!
Wednesday: I spent the day on Kanapitsa beach, catching the 11 am water taxi - €4.50. It was a lovely, relaxing day and I came back on the 3.15 boat to have an ice cream and cold drink at Alaska (lemon and ginger with elderflower - absolutely delicious and an ice cream flavour I’ve not seen before) It was one of my Koukounaries friends’ birthday so we had a table booked at Siferi, with a drink beforehand at Café del Mar. I’d never eaten at Siferi before but was very impressed. Both the setting and the meal were absolutely lovely and it’s another one I’ll definitely eat at again. It was very busy, but the two ladies who served us were extremely efficient. We started by sharing courgette balls and cheesy garlic bread our mains were two sea bass fillets and one sea bream and lamb shank in a balsamic sauce with mashed potato (mine). The lamb fell off the bone and it was delicious, as was the potato. My friends loved their fish dishes and I had slight food envy, but will have the bass at sometime in the future. There was complementary panacotta to finish. With water and wine the bill was €25 a head - great value. Whilst we were waiting for the bill I spotted some tiny lights glowing in a bush so went to investigate. My first ever sighting of glow worms! I was so pleased to see some, as it was a first for me. We finished the evening with a drink at Main Street bar, then they went for the bus and I strolled back to the hotel and my wonderfully comfy bed.

Thursday: Another beautiful and very hot day dawned - I caught the sunrise on camera and then went back to bed for an hour. It was a slow start as I showered before going out - I probably should be using the aircon as the nights are very warm. I took the 11 am water taxi to Achladies, spent a couple of hours on the beach and then to Octopus 🐙 beach bar for long lunch with 10 lovely people. Some of us had never met face to face before, though we’ve all chatted in a Messenger group for several years now … so it was a gathering of old friends with much chatter and laughter. A great afternoon! I had a pancetta dish & a Repi beer which came to €18; everyone’s food looked really good. A couple of hours later we moved to Mojo bar for wine or beer - it was and shady in there so we all stayed a little longer than planned. Then, the water taxi back to town, a quick shower & change for me to be ready to meet an old friend of Paul and mine, Andrew, for a cocktail at GinFish then on to dinner at Il Migliore. We had pappardelle ragu (posh spag Bol) & ravioli, a complementary crème brûlée half a carafe of rosé which came to €50. The food was lovely, but the service a little slow (which could have had something to do with the police coming to do an unannounced paperwork check, also at GinFish and Barbouni next door!). Then a final cocktail at Turquoise (very turquoise but delicious), a chat with friend Heather and down to the bus terminus with Andrew to walk my dinner off, then ‘home’ to bed 💤

Brilliant stuff, keep it coming.
By the way, I make a pretty decent pappardelle ragu myself. 🤣
