First thoughts excellent! Still finding our way but our hosts and fellow guests are so helpful, just what we hoped for. Ate at Varellis last night, tonight I am going into town with all the ladies for a meal then going to see Mamma Mia whilst the men stay here and have a bbq ? Tomorrow a gang of us are off on a full day boat trip, hoping to catch sight of the dolphins... So far so great! ?? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Come on then, spill the beans. Who bought the drink? Bob Er, I'm from Yorkshire! Anyway, Saturday we went into town and Vera bought a few last minute things for her wardrobe. We ate in Varelli's, really terrific tzatziki and mixed grill for two. As usual, it was too much for me to eat. Sunday we popped back to town to exchange a wardrobe thing which didn't fit and got two to replace it, then back to Villa Maria for a leisurely day. The pool is still quite (some, called Dennis, would say cold), but we managed a dip. The surrounding paving was hot enough to make me hurry!
today we went on th Ayios Nikolas boat trip with hostess Victoria (Facebook Skiathosbooksskiathos). Set sail at 10am, to Skopelos, where we had our lunch - tzatziki, kalamari, tomato & cucumber salad €21.50. Then sailed on to Alonissos. At neither Skopelos nor Alonissos were we fit enough to join the trips organised by Victoria, but she had enough takers to require her to organise a second bus on Alonissos. As we approached Alonissos, we were favoured by dolphin visitors. I managed to video them. Vera went to the bow to look and was helped by a young lad from Finland who got her a viewpoint amongst the crowd. Because she couldn't cope with hanging on and her camera, he took half a dozen snaps for her. All we could do to repay him was let him try his (very decent) English with us and of course we thanked him profusely. We got back to the old port at 6:15pm and wearily went straight into the nearest place for a couple of gyros and a drink. Then a quick call into the shop where we had ordered t-shirts for the house-sitter's boys, to add one for their grandad - they'll all be Batmen now! We shall be going to watch MamaMia on Thursday and will be able to check that today's boat played the right tunes for the different landmarks they pointed out!

Good to hear that you're having such a great time. I've never been privileged enough to see the dolphins, but I live in hope. Is it true that you managed to buy another knotted handkerchief and that, coupled with the Google T shirt is how Scottydi managed to recognise you? I'm a fan of Varelli's as well. They are a lovely family. Varelli's and Avli, at Agia Paraskevi are my favourite restaurants, after Infinity Blue and Green Park. Bob

No, my ingenuity at disguise failed to escape Di - I think it was her husband who recognised Vera from 100 yards away - I had naiively sent Di a photo of us at Salt and Pepper last year, so destroying my attempts at concealment! We are dashing off now (7:30am) for a swim at Troulos beach before she can catch us again - going boating meant we missed it yesterday. The previous morning as we swam, we watched seagulls diving down into a shoal of fish and quietly hoped they wouldn't fly over us until after they got the call of nature!

Sounds like you are enjoying being back Dennis and I'm glad the sun has been shining for you. The first time I saw dolphins I cried.

Forgot to say Dennis, next time you see Angela, tell her Maureen and David are back on 29th August but I will email her nearer the time. Thanks.

We'll, I'll tell her and see how well she remembers you.
i should mention for all, that the sea had warmed slightly for this morning's 8am swim. I was able to get in much more quickly - not like Vera, who simply gets in. I have to take a long time over it.
We ate at Varelli's again tonight - any place which can make tzatziki that good is guaranteed return business from us! Oh, and I picked a fig from the tree next to Astoria Hotel. Strange how that tree has ripe fruit at this time of year when no other trees have anything bigger than marbles.

Dennis she will remember us alright, our surname is Palethorpe and she once told us that as soon as she saw the name on her list she remembered us. We've stayed there quite a few times now, I think this year will be number 5 or 6. One year we went twice like you, in June and September. Hope you continue to enjoy the lovely island of Skiathos.

Another leisurely day today. The temperature has climbed and I improved my time getting into the sea this morning by several minutes. At this rate I'll be going straight in before the end of next week. Two swims in Villa Maria pool and the rest of the day just chillaxing (that's a modern word used by hip[!] people). Tomorrow is the big night out at the cinema.
We had our first meal in Ratatouille tonight, tzatziki with pitta bread - chicken souvlaki - three sticks for heaven's sake! Special Ice Cream with two spoons. €29.50 with a large bottle of water and a pineapple juice. For anyone concerned about the price of eating out, don't be. Most we've paid so far was €36.50.
Lottery draw tonight. Didn't win last night, so fingers crossed for tonight. Having done it for nearly 20 years, you'd think my fingers had become so crossed already that they didn't need reminding!

Well Dennis, if you have that trouble getting into the water at Troulos, don't even think of giving it a try at Little Banana! Scottydi, sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your meal at Kivili. I can't place that one. Where is it? Don't forget to give Green Park, at Ag Paraskevi, a try at some point. You won't regret it.
