Well the bags are packed. Not yet weighed! 8:30am taxi confirmed. Flying from East Mids at 12:15pm MT1004 Whilst East Mids is closer than Manchester for us (not as close as Doncaster Sheffield!) we've never done Skiathos from there before. Been another lovely sunny day in Yorkshire. So, once we were sorted we cracked a bottle of fizz around 6pm & sat in the garden! Here's to Skiathos, 9th visit

Not a bad flight. A tad late on take off but made the time up & landed 10 mins early. The new "we have to bus you to the terminal" ?? So, the Thomson Gatwick flight landed just before us. 2 plane loads waiting for "buses" to terminal. Queue Queue & .........,,only one lady at passport control. And, it seems she picked up & examined EACH passport! One hour, yes one hour later we made it to baggage hall. It's Skiathos ! No complaints:) Love it Love it !!! Jimmys in Pareskevi for quick evening meal. Seems we were recognised by our FB check in & ended up chatting to Steve (Townboy from original Skiathos board) Great night What will tomorrow bring.........

What the heck is that about passport control, Tre?
I remember the days before EU we used to try our hardest to get a Greek stamp in our passports but always failed. An hour to reach the baggage carousel is ridiculous - what about all the poor people who didn't dare do a wee on the plane? Taking that long will challenge my bodily functions after doing quaffing on the plane!!

That passport control has me seriously concerned. My favourite arrivals procedure is to wander vaguely towards the nice young boy on the gate and try to get past him without showing my passport - I've never managed it yet, despite smiling nicely at him and saying in my best accent "Cheretay", but he stands firm, says "passport " and then doesn't look at it (waves me on disgustedly as if I've got something foully infectious). If this new German airport operator is going to get all Germanically efficient, the place will turn into a nightmare.
Let's just hope that by the time I make my first arrival of 2017 the girl has become fed up with my hundreds of grinning predecessors.

Tell me about it! Me and the boy were going out on our bikes today but rain stopped play! Daughter is off to Santorini Tuesday, I tried to coax her to go to Skiathos but her other half intervened, they'll learn!!

Saturday, woke early to the sound of the chickens & goats, perfect. A tad overcast but lovely & warm start to the day. Bus to town, stroll along the port & breakfast at Ergon. More perfection. Gentle amble through town & over to the Plakes to drink in the views & back down to the old port by noon where we were greeted like long lost family by Gregory at Arconchitos (Orange cushions!) and dragged in! Beer O Clock then! Not like us to give the Bourtzi a miss but by 1pm we decided to go back to Theodora for a lazy afternoon by their lovely pool. New mattresses on their sunbeds! Seriously comfortable. Plucked up the courage have a dip in the pool. "Chilly" initially but I went in again to down so it can't have that bad! Later, got a taxi deal whilst stood at the bus stop; €5 to town, happy with that. Dinner at a new place, Basilikos. It's where Maria's Pizza has been for the last 3 years, opposite O Parexenos. Unrecognisable from the quirkily decorated building it used to be. Advertised as "Greek Mediteranean" Fabulous service & attention to detail. When bringing fresh cutlery for the main course the waiter had to place the knife with the blade sitting exactly in the 3rd prong of the fork!! The food? Honestly, we felt a little disappointed. Starters, my mushroom fricasee was delicious but cheese saganaki needed more cooking. Main courses, battered cod with buttered garlic mash was John's choice, the fish was good but the mash was a purée & not so good. Penne pasta with basil & cherry tomatoes; well 3 cherry tomatoes & a huge plate full of pasta. Bland. Half a carafe of wine, complentary cheesecake like desert to share, €50. Mmm? Maria's by the way, is now next to No Name in what used to be a trendy boutique "Skunk Works" (They've moved to even trendier new premises) So, not wanting to get "dragged in" again on the old port, we took a few short cuts & sat for a night cap at Cos Altro just along the new port to kill half an hour for the next bus. Seriously good. They brought us complementary warm bruschetta with cheese & tomato. Delicious. And now Sunday awaits us......

Thank you Tre, that report is just the perfect read for my Sunday daybreak and it's lovely to read an interesting post with all the words and no cryptic abbreviations. I'm really looking forward to more of this.
May I just make a tiny little comment? I notice that once again you missed out on the Bourtzi. Just like you did last year after you had promised to call and see us there on Saturday. I don't mind you missing during the current sojourn, but I'd just like to say if you miss us on 9th September, I shall put you down as all mouth and no trousers!

9th September, 1st July - whichever. You'd just better be there - I've been saving for six months to buy you a bottle of pop and you'd better not disappoint me. You won't have Treason as an excuse this time.
