Well, as I'm leaving home in less than 24 hours now, I thought I had better get a move on and start my feedback thread I'm not sure if I've added the song properly ... it's a long time since last September. The title of this track very much describes me lately!! I'm even more scatty than normal and the youngest son is quite fearful. But my mind is so very often not here, but in Skiathos, so it seemed apt. Plus, I absolutely love it and it was top of my playlist last year and the year before. I'm keeping my 21 playlist as is - have added a few songs over the last few months - but as its some 6 hours long I don't feel the need to change it. Am (almost) packed and have got all the necessary items in my hand luggage. Oh, have added a waterproof jacket this morning, YM. It absolutely poured down last night over there, so it's an insurance policy. I've just got to do the burglar's house clean and water my plants and that's it. Am keeping everything crossed that Manchester isn't as awful as reports indicate. A friend of a friend said it took them 3 hours to get to the gate last week. Yikes! PS: turn your volume down, please Dennis. It's a bit loud đ

OMG or in other words OMG, thatâs utterly dreadful. Or at least the first 3 seconds are. More than that actually, it took me ages to hit the stop button.
Have a wonderful holiday and play all the music you like - I shall not be listening to it, sorry!

I thought youâd say that Dennis! For some reason, it doesnât start at the actual beginning of the song but in the noisy bit.
Thanks, am hoping it is a wonderful holiday for my friend and her familyâs sake as they have been having a tough time recently. We wonât be there until nine-ish tomorrow evening - hopefully just early enough to get a few bits from the new supermarket on the ring road. For anyone who does the radar thingy, weâre on TOM2324, scheduled to depart at 14:15.

Have a wonderful holiday and play all the music you like - I shall not be listening to it, sorry! Great tune by an awesome band. My favourite is Velouria. Hopefully I'll get to see you this year. The two thing I know for sure are that we'll not be going into town tomorrow night, so probably eating at Under the Pine Tree, then drinks (whoever's still awake). Then on Saturday my dad arrives between 8 & 9, so again we won't be in town, and almost certainly in Agustera watching the Champions League Final. No time to get anywhere else!

Does that mean the noisy bit isnât all that racket at the beginning? Extra, extra OMG, OMG, OMG! If and when I meet you, I hope to heaven youâre not one of those people who carry ghetto blasters around. If you are, please let me know when youâre going to be when youâre going to be somewhere so that I can be not there!

Oh Dennis, you are funny... and no doubt teasing me!
But just in case, no - never owned a ghetto blaster (can you even get them, these days đ€). Iâve just got an eclectic taste in music - also love some opera and classical. Just because Iâm on the wrong side of 60 doesnât mean I have to stop widening my horizons đŒ đ
Anyway, am just about to get ready for the off - am thinking weâll be staying put at the Myrtia tonight YM, as there are young-ish children in our party who will be pretty worn out.
âSeeâ you all soon đđŹđ·đ

I have a few spare mins so might pop on flightradar and check she is away on time.
Looks like the flight is delayed by about half an hour.

Do you think so? Isnât it Kate who has such a wonderful time out there that she simply finds it difficult to get her typing fingers going? Anyway, letâs just have faith and sit with our breath all baited and stuff.

Kalimera all ⊠late on day 1 here and all is good.
Manchester wasnât too bad, apart from one big drama. The taxi dropped us off at around 10.15 am and the queue at Tui bag drop looked massive, but then some lovely staff managed to separate those unaware folk who were in the wrong place and we moved forwards pretty rapidly until âŠ.. Panic set in when my friend handed her passport to the young man checking them prior to directing you to a machine and told my friend she had her late husbandâs passport. Very upsetting, to say the least, as this holiday is partly a farewell to him. Well, you can imagine our reactions đ± I had already gone through that area and my bag was on its way to the plane, as were my friendâs daughterâs. We didnât know what to do until a lovely, calm Tui assistant stepped in and helped. Luckily, one of my friendâs three daughters isnât joining us until Friday and managed to leave her office, go and collect her mumâs passport and get to the airport in just over an hour! Meanwhile, my friend had been directed to wait in Arrivals, where an extremely kind member of Tui staff bought her some food and sat with her until her daughter arrived. Our collective blood pressures returned to normal when she joined us for lunch in Wagamama ⊠phew! I must say, we were all impressed by the kindness and efficiency of all the Tui staff we encountered, as they also took her to the front of the baggage and security queues to make sure she was ok. The security area wasnât busy at all when we went through ⊠although Iâd (very stupidly) forgotten to take my hairdryer out of the carry on bag and it had to go through again. The flight was late because the plane had had an earlier journey to Mallorca and been slightly delayed there. I think Tui must have fewer planes these days. It was a good flight once we actually took off. The plane seemed quite new and (unless Iâve shrunk) there was adequate seat space. We landed in the dark and had to put masks on to enter the airport - which totally spoilt that delightful first âhitâ of the herby smell of Skiathos that you get when you walk down the plane steps. I didnât fill up with tears this time - unusual for me!
There was a very slow shuffle through passport control, but nothing required other than stamping our passports, and then a very long wait for the cases. Mine was almost the very last. The three hire jimnys were waiting for us
It was a whole day of travel and pretty tiring as Iâd left home at 8.30 and arrived here, at the Myrtia, at just after 10 pm. Us adults were tired, but the four children were still full of it at one am, when we all turned in.
We were all awake fairly early today and three of us went to the big Sklaventis supermarket near the airport before breakfast, mainly to buy breakfast food (and beach supplies) We were back for 10 am and had a well-earned breakfast at Myrtia taverna. I had a delicious mushroom & cheese omelette and a glass of frappe for âŹ8. After this, we grabbed our beach things and headed off to Koukounaries for the day.
Tonight was bouzouki night and became very lively, with almost everyone on their feet dancing at some point. The temperature is a perfect and doesnât get too chilly, which can be a problem at the start of the season. Vlatko and his straight man Stefanos do a great job, and there was Greek dancing and plate-smashing
A great first day - to be continued

I didnât fill up with tears this time - unusual for me! Well, I'm not having that!!! If they want me to put a mask on to go into arrivals, I'll put it on AFTER I've got the 'hit', believe me I will. Oh, and my eyes will get tears too. So there, put that in your pipe and smoke it. Dammit, I remember toasting forks and horse-drawn milk carts.

Friday (I think) - we all surfaced a little later and had already breakfasted in our own rooms (burnt toast and a banana for me đ). We met by the pool mid-morning and then caught the 12.20 water taxi into town for lunch at Kabourelias. We decided to have leisurely one there whist waiting for another family to arrive, to bring our total staying at Myrtia to 16. There are three more to arrive on Friday evening , staying with YM at The Palace.
That food at Kabourelias was as good as ever, and very reasonable considering the amount we had and the wine consumed. I had moussaka, which was lovely and not too cinnamon-y (which made me happy). We drank rose and water and my bill was 20 euros. After food, some of us went shopping and bought a couple of things we liked a lot but certainly didnât need. I stopped off at the I Love Skiathos office to pay for my discount card this year and to claim my raffle prize (2 tickets for the Kalypso Mamma Mia trip). George looked really well, plus we had the great pleasure of seeing his partner Martina and their beautiful baby son.
Then, back to Koukounaries on the water taxi (always a treat) and another hour by the pool. We all went separate ways for dinner. Us four older ones (ie no parental responsibility) decide to eat at the White Bar at the Mandraki hotel and listen to the Blucox duo. The food was good - although not amazing - and the music very enjoyable. There werenât very many people eating there, so that spoilt the ambience somewhat. I had a beautifully presented sea bass with greens and a couple of carrots. The fish was cooked perfectly, but anyone with a larger appetite would have been complaining. We shared a cheesecake and orange pie for puds, had a litre of rose with our food and the bill came to 30 euros each.
My friend felt ill during the meal and so we left as soon as weâd finished. Sheâs had a tough time lately and has been very brave coming on the holiday, which had been planned in happier times. Hopefully, she will be ok tomorrow as weâre planning a beach day somewhere to be decided in the morning.
By the way, weâve all remarked that the weather this year is the hottest weâve known it for May!
