Heartbreaking I’m afraid, her knee pain has worsened. Her daughter came and drove her round walk-in centre and our surgery and got her booked in for an X-ray Tuesday morning, nothing broken so if you have severe pain, go round to A&E they’ll be able to give you something and they won’t have to wait for X-ray. So I wheelchaired her to A&E where we had a further four hours to get 28 codeine pills. They’ve done no good. Bought a compression bandage two days ago and today took delivery of a knee support thing which she’s worn for a few hours. Taken it off to go to bed early and it has left it’s mark/impression, but we don’t know if it’s doing any good. Trying another dose of hot cream. We had tried a few days with a bag of frozen gooseberries. Just don’t know where to turn. She’s convinced exercise is good for it, I’m convinced rest is good for it. To date, nothing has actually been any good for it.

so sorry Dennis, hospitals usually recommend (as im sure veras daughter will tell you) RICE rest ice compression elevation. Sounds like wear and tear on cartilidge or meniscus look up some knee diagrams on google. She needs gp referal to orthopaedics asap as will take weeks. must be skiathos thing my husband has occasional knee pain but on holiday after few days got so bad i bought him walking stick while i was on one of my shopping jaunts in pap street. he said helped alot but curtailed alot of our planned activites , dog shelter etc he didnt want to walk far to eat, and struggled to reach bus stop 18. we got good as flagging down passing taxis when left the beach, it only cost 5 euros back to morfia worth every penny in that heat.He really struggled getting up plane steps, coming down harder. Just one more thing to add to our eventful holiday. its a little better since home. What is strange is he was walking up to 4miles a day pre holiday he has step counter on phone. I,m sorry to say it Dennis but i cant see you making set holiday, ive told my husband no way will i book anything else until hes seen dr and sorted knee properly.

REFLECTIONS ON HOLIDAY I think on the whole bus service so much better plenty buses and never crowded, mini bus to aselinos great addition. SA lots people using service to airport. FOOD excellent as ever and very good value, never had a bad meal prices barely risen. All taverna staff as cheerful and pleasant as ever didnt see any attitudes mentioned on other sites. we have no problem waitng for a meal, its all cooked fresh and youre on hols what else would you be doing. BEST MEAL difficult so many good ones, split between lamb shank in white wine oregano and mustard ? at ratatouille and seafood linguinie at salt and pepper excellent complex sauce. They also had by far the best house wine and served in ice bucket. ACCOMMODATION -enough said about that lots people commented, seems different sort of people her this year, never seen loud mouthed inconsiderate lots before ever. PEOPLE nice to meet Dennis in the flesh at long last, also Tommy and andrew . DISASTORS losing bracelet in sea, husband developing dodgy knee choice of accommodation getting gout in toe pharmacie in spite of showing them translation app on google tried to sell me hard skin cream.! can now AIRPORT still too small especially when every flight seemed to be delayed unintelligible announcements BUT still enjoyed holiday although alot more crowded that usual will have to think of earlier dates in future.

Thanks for sharing Cariad, a mixed bag indeed. Hopefully your next trip to the island is far more enjoyable 😊

Have loved reading your very candid reports, Cariad and pleased that you enjoyed your holiday overall. I think that May and June are going to be very busy next year - have seen a lot of people posting that July is too hot for them.

I'd like to add my thanks for your posts and I agree generally with your REFLECTIONS post, but with the exception of new buses - we found them uncomfortable, those thin seats may be OK for short trips nipping about towns on the mainland, but on the island and the way they drive, not good. And Vera's mishap occurred on one which was absolutely packed, just like the old days. We were in one of the front and back facing sets and I was opposite a lady who had several full bags of shopping and we were so close packed that I found my knee embarassingly close to her person - I can only imagine she either didn't mind, or thought it was something from one of her shopping bags!!! It was the same for Vera with a young lad who had apparently gone for the week's shopping for some accommodation and it was being in such a cramped position when trying to get up and out that she got stuck and twisted badly when the driver set off with a jerk.
We took the same amount of cash as usual (Vera has a chart with expenditure forecast for us to get our Euros and we've used the same one for years now) so prices may have gone up a bit, but not enough to challenge us.
