The hut doing honey balls is there but only opens in evenings which I think was always the case anyway. Helen isnt really a pudding fan but is keen to give them a try. Funnily enough, because we were so late getting in on first night three of us (mum went straight to bed) ate at Pyrofani as it was so close. We just ordered a bunch of starters and did our own diy meze. Cant remember bill but think it was reasonable.

Quick note on a not very eventful day. Weather looked iffy so we hung around apt rather than striking out early and then before 8am there was a power out in the apt block. Someomed messaged us it was whole island plus other two but not heard anything official. Helen pining for breakfast tea. Made cheese ham and tomato baguettes for late breakfast then power came back on before 10 so I was on tea making duty. Intention was maybe going to Achladies beach via water taxi as Helen & Anne were booked into El-Ysium cookery course this evening which is nearby. However the weather had turned by time we got to harbour. Water taxis not running and not beach weather anyway. Had coffees at Suga on the port then it started raining so we paid up and switched to Karoubelia for long lazy lunch and joined by Barbara from the facebook group. Had swordfish, its about as 'fishy' as I get apart from stuff in batter or prawns. More rain but as we finished and had a chat with yet another facebooker it started to brighten. Others wanted to browse shops but I nipped up to the clock tower to see if I could sort a reservation just for me and Helen at Final Step. All the way up there to find it closed due to bad weather! Ive been in touch with a waitress I know there and shes hopefully going to sort me something out. More mooching round town as it brightened and an ouzo and lemonade at the bar next to rock n roll. Just left Helen at bus terminus to go to Elysium. Me and mum will entertain ourselves. Big lunch so planning on a snack at No Name later before the chefs return from Achladies tonight. Must dash, got cats to feed.
When it comes down in Skiathos it's rarely a light shower...
Two of our regular visitors...

You’re getting soft Kev … cats and boiled eggs! Helen must be a good influence! Loving the reports, though. Making me even keener to get back - only a week now! 💙🇬🇷💙

Helen reports back that for 20 euro the cookery evening was excellent and good value. They made tzatziki and stuffed tomato/peppers. Basic generic Greek stuff but they have slightly different recipes and herbs to add. Tasted great apparently. The lady who runs it doesnt have great English so her daughter translates. Daughter also did a demo of honey balls. Well worth it if anyone plans to do it. Meanwhile mum and I slummed it a bit going to Draft Bar on pap street then to No Name for gyros n chips and then to Old Port House. Helen joined us there for a couple then a gentle stroll back to the apartments via the harbour. Not wildly exciting but we were all pretty tired so happy to hit the hay before 1am.

Yesterday (26th) was pretty unremarkable but enjoyable nontheless. A facebooker had reserved 4 beds at Troulos beach so we all bussed it down to stop 20 and enjoyed the delights of the taverna at the far end beyond the pond for lunch. Id picked up a couple if mozzie bites overnight. Mum decided to spend the day catching up with Taxi and Helena at the Taxiarchis. She has stayed there twice and so far it has been her favourite so she likes to call in. Even though they are full at the moment they still were happy for her to relax round their pool. Helens friend insisted I take one of her antihistimines to prevent swelling. This had the effect of something approximating to a horse tranquiliser. I was dozy through the evening meal at Alexandros (food was pretty good from what I remember, also I hadnt realised before but the lady running Alexandros is Magda from Mustang car rentals. Two busy businesses from same family!) and nearing catatonic in the blind dog where we stopped for just one drink. Slept for a good 8 hours straight. Wont be taking any more of those antihistimines!

A more interesting day today (27th) marking the date exactly 1 year ago that I met Helen in the BD. We have seen each other as much as possible separated by 230 miles in the intervening months. Today we had our first day away on the holiday just the 2 of us. Helen always wanted to see Mandraki and halfway up the track through the pine trees I sat her down under a big pine under the pretence of a water break and instead proposed. Fortunately she said yes as I had the ring secreted in my rucksack. We then had a fab afternoon on Mandraki Xerxes and Helens friend Anne organised a cake and a bottle of fizz during our meal at Hellenicon in town. They also had a couple of guys playing Greek tunes, similar to Alexandros. I passed on a slice of the celebration cake to each of them before we left. Great food and best service so far on holiday. Helen and I dropped in to Old Port then on to BD to rekindle our first meeting to the day. Writing this exhausted but with a warm glow and no its not sunstroke. Best wishes from a newly engaged Kev.
Helen at the Mandraki Xerxes taverna after I'd made her an offer she couldn't refuse...

What a fabulous place for a proposal, Kev! So romantic 💕💕. Did you share Mandraki chips to celebrate? And Hellenikon was a great choice for your celebratory meal - Dimitris and family are just lovely. Definitely, as Cariad says, the happiest feedback post this year … heartfelt congratulations to you and Helen.
